Sage 3 Modification

I love the Sage 3, but I am concerned about the interior rusting (as described here).

So I am wondering if anyone has ever tried or thought about a modification of carving out the portion of the central spacer G-10 along the lock components. I realize that the central spacer actually serves the function of holding the spring in place (as seen here), but I believe that the area above this point may be unnecessary to the functionality of the knife.

In sum, I am proposing a modification to the Sage 3 that would resemble the back of the Mini Gripitilian, thus allowing the knife to breath.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of rust? And if so, does this seem like a sound/feasible solution? Is there a better solution?

Thanks!

I experienced some rust. I cleaned it with a q-tip (got to it early enough) and now just keep it lubed and haven't had any problems.

I've carried mine quite a bit since I bought it right after they came out - I've never had any rust develop. I haven't taken it to sea or anything, but I have carried it around in a sweaty pocket many a day. Great knife.

When I get a new knife, I soak the liners in tuff-glide. My Sage3 hasn't had any problems but I haven't had any rust issues with any of my knives so far.
