This is my oldest knife that I bought in my adult life. It is actually the knife that started me using, carrying, and collecting modern pocket knives back in early 2012. The knife itself had a pretty hard life for what was supposed to be a "gents" version of the sage. The wood scales, which in my version were never pretty, just basic dark featureless ironwood, became trashed in time and the Ti bolsters were scratch beyond reason. I just never really loved the look of the scales, and I couldnt seem to get the knife to age into something I was attached to (if that makes any sense). This knife was eventually relegated to "tool box knife" for a year or two, which I know makes no sense for a knife with wood scales. Looking back, I was foolish to not show this great knife the love it deserved, but I was new to the hobby, and distracted by a lust for CRK knives and other Spyderco models.
Fast forward to 2017: I have been thinking for quite a while that this knife needed a return to glory. It was, after all, my 'first'. The wood scales and Ti bolsters were just plain thrashed and ugly, and not in a good way. Not that nice patina of a "grampa's knife", just the look of a uncared for knife. I dreamt of having some natural micarta to replace the ironwood scales and having the Ti bead-blasted to match what is done to a Sebenza.
My very good buddy and forum member Gull Wing agreed to take on the project and fabbed me up some fabulous natural micarta scales and blasted the Ti bolsters. As a surprise, and amazing added-bonus, he made me a perfect Ti pocket clip to match. I'm back in the love, or maybe in love for the first time with this knife. I look very forward to it aging, getting 'snail trails', and the micarta darkening. I do plan on using and carrying this knife, but not abusing it like I did in the past.
Here are the results! I may post more pics in the future as the knife settles in to it's life in the pocket. Thank you Gull Wing!
Look close, you'll see the first 'Snail Trail". This knife is going to look great with a little pocket wash!
