Sage 4 question.

I love my Sage 4. It is more than just a tribute to Al Mar and his knife designs, it sets a new level of excellence to the front lock, long bolster design of his. This knife is incredible in terms of design details and fit and finish. I marvel at it every time I look at it. I could go on and on about the details, but you will see them in the pictures.
Anyway - here is my question:
What is the purpose of the counter-bores on the inside of the pivot area? I tried to capture them on the pictures below. Hopefully you can see them. The knife opens and closes super smooth. Are there bearings in there? Anyone have theirs apart?

Thanks,

The sage 4 has an internal stop pin incorporated into the blade. What I think you're seeing in the track cut out in the liner for that stop pin. Here are some pictures with the bolster removed.

No bearings, but I can see why you might think so. Smooth as glass!

Wow! Thanks Steve for the information. The stop pin would keep the pressure off of the lock bar pivot pin. Did Al Mar do that as well? This is a neat feature, but is it overkill? Why don't they advertise that feature?
Thanks,
Dave

I'd like the answers to those questions as well.
I found an old post on the subject in which Sal mentioned that the stop pin can provide "some advantages in some situations", but he didn't elaborate.
Now you've got me curious.
