Has anyone heard an ETA on the sage 4? It was so awesome to hold at Blade and can't wait till it comes out.

There's a prototype or concept model of it!???? As far as I knew, it was still in development.

So are you talking about the one with bolsters and a front lock?

I can tell you, you are very unlikely to get any news on ETA. My guess is 2012.

PS-If by chance you're talking about the smaller CF backlock Sage, the Chaparral, it's coming out in the next few months. The Sage 3 just came out early this year, like Jan. or Feb.

If I remember correctly, the Sage series plan was to release a new lock each year. The Blackie Collins Bolt Action was released this year, so the Mar/McBurnett front lock shouldn't come out until 2012.

Jack is correct. We're just finalizing design, then we begin tooling. I think one a year is realistic. Especially since we're trying to maintain inventory of the earier designs.

We have a Ti version and a SS verstion of the Sage4. The Ti is lighter, but more expensive. Thoughts?

We're also beginning to develop the next version for 2013.

Sal, do you have an idea on how much more the SS version will weight vs the Ti? Or approx weight of each?

Will there be carbon fiber, G10 or Micarta versions or this version or just the Ti & SS versions?

Are you allowed to say if you've chosen a lock for the Sage 5? I'd love to know what you have planned!

As far as the bolster material on the Sage 4, I think that probably the SS would be best just to keep the price down. However, if there would only be like a $10 difference in the MSRP, Ti would be ideal. But if it makes a major price difference, I'm not sure it's worth it for the weight, since it would end up looking about the same.

BTW, have you decided on a scale material for the Sage 4? Still a wood scale?

I'm so excited for the Sage 4! Can't wait to see prototype pictures and eventually put it to use! I'm glad the the Chaparral is coming much sooner

Titanium! I know we would save up to pay alittle more for a good knife. No prototype pictures on the sage 4 yet?

It's probably a little early to say. First let's see if we can make it. Just wanted to give you an idea how long some of these projects take.

Still planning wood, but currently leaning to something a bit more exotic and attractive.

The Chaparral is similar, just smaller, but the Chaparral will be it's own thing with different handle materials, but the lock will remain the same.

I really liked the ss with stabilized maple like the one at Blade, but ti would be super cool. It could be a little lighter but the heft felt really great in hand. It was also very smooth when opening and closing.

Personally, I think titanium is way overrated, but it might save a few grams if used for the liners. For the extra cost, I don't think it is worth it. I'd vote for stainless.

I personally would rather see stainless and micarta rather than wood. Much more traditional if it's to be modeled similar to the Al Mar and no worries about issues with wood like the Mule's had.

+1, if Ti is going to add significantly to the cost with only minimal weight savings, i'm sure most would be more than happy with SS liners.

As long as it has smooth bolsters, either material is fine by me. If one requires bolsters with visible screws as on the 25 Ann. Delica or new jigged bone Delica IV's, and the other does not, I'd vote for the smooth bolstered one.

I would prefer wood with bolsters over Ti. I really liked the cocobolo wood scales on the knife (Delica?) in the prototype/concept case shown at Blade. Eric mentioned that it would be another less allergenic wood for the production knife. Except for the fluted Military Ti scales, I find them a bit blocky on the hand.

I am an unabashed fan of titanium. Could be my cycling background but I would take ti any day over stainless steel. I would buy one or more.

SS for me, mainly 'cause of price.

Well, if it's going to be built anything like the Al Mar blades I saw today, it will be magnificent!

I would like a sage CF with a lock like the phoenix!! That would be my dream Spydie Sal!!!!
