Sage 5 CF M4 switcheroo

Is the bad news that the green FRN scales were destroyed? :) That was my problem putting a Maxamet Manix 2 blade into a G10 frame. :)

Finally got pictures of the Sage‘s blades to show the good and the bad. S30V pre-cqi is on the left, M4 LW is the middle and the new S30V cqi in carbon fiber on the right. Pre-cqi blade has hidden stop pin on both sides of the blade with cut outs in the liners. The LW M4 and cqi S30V carbon fiber have a single hidden stop pin on one scale and the cut out on the blade. So if you have the cqi Sage you can just swap blades around or if you don’t mind not having the hidden stop pin you can put the M4 in the pre-cqi. But the left over blade and lw scales and liner parts will be just that, left over parts. The last picture is the LW liner in the carbon fiber scale. Everything lines up but the clip hole. That’s what keeps you from just switching the scales. Hope this has help someone out. Now I just have to get my hands on another cqi carbon fiber to make the switch permanent.

Well, I gave Spyderco a call to find out when the Sage 5 CF was CQI’d and was told that was something the couldn’t answer per their legal team. Not sure why, but if anyone out there knows when it was CQI’d it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Parsons Bladeworks makes micarta and CF scales for the Sage 5 lightweight. I ordered a pair when the resupply dropped last week, they should be here today. The micarta is sold out but both marbled and twill CF are still available.
