Sage 5 Scales (CF Laminate)

The compression lock is my favorite lock, love the sage 3. I also love the leaf shape blade found on the Sage knives.

Why does spyderco use the CF laminate on the Sage 5 or any of its knives. Do people actually like CF laminate or think it looks cool?

Are there any aftermarket scale upgrades for the S5 yet?
 
Those scales are good. They provide sufficient grip while being easy on your pockets. Its like that spyderco g10, nobody does it better.
For something you are going to use its great don't need to be fancy.
 
Its a business decision. I'm personally glad they used it. I rather pay for good steel than real CF. I think it looks pretty good and it helped keep the price down. If it was full CF it would probably cost $25 to $50 more especially on the Domino. That's one knife I am really sorry to see discontinued.
 
It looks good, provides good grip and keeps the price of a fantastic knife down. I'm totally fine with CF laminate. What's difference does it make?
 
I have always wondered whether the laminate is less likely to crack during drilling and machining. I have an early model delica with true cf scales that has small cracks around the screw holes. cf is strong but can be brittle; the laminate may be better in this regard.
 
I think the laminate is a great choice, it makes for a different look and differentiates it from the others. Also it gives it a more gentleman's knife look when you pull it out. I like G-10 but it has a more industrial look. I am also not crazy about Spyderco's CF, they texture it too much and it looses the CF look. When I want CF I rather get it made up custom to my liking.
 
It's funny, I dislike the GB2 laminate scales because they lack much grip, but love the Sliverax scales (same material). Very strange but it feels much grippier on the Sliverax.

I'm with you on that. I really like G10 and even the FRN the way Spyderco does them. The CF isn't a selling point for me, but it seems to be advertised as a big upgrade. I could be wrong but seems like most people are lukewarm on CF
