Sage open frame issue

Just purchased a Sage 1 and have run into a design issue that causes problems due to the way I carry my knives. I prefer to forego the pocket clip and just let the knife ride loose in my pocket. So, here is the issue: the open frame allows my keys or other pocket items to come into contact with the blade edge through the back side of the handle potentially damaging the edge. How do I remedy this? I've considered trying to make a custom wood piece to fill the gap, or even sealing it with something like sugrue that would stay put but be removable down the road.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

I don't let my keys, and change come into contact with my knives, especially the $100+ ones. When a knife is at the bottom of my pocket, I have also had issues with pocket lint, and sand getting into the pivot area. I use the awesome paper clip, pocket clip.
They have those CRK calfskin knife pouches, but I think the Sage is way too wide. I used to use regular belt sheaths. They work ok. I haven' t seen any other options.

That's what I was thinking: Get someone to make you a custom backspacer ... or buy a pre-made one if such a thing exists.
