Im thinking of purchasing a new carbon fiber Spyderco fo EDC and i was just eondering what you guys thought about the Sage and Caly 3. I want a good sturdy EDC that will hold an edge well. Thanks!

Can't wait to see what people say- I'm watching both on ebay and can't decide!

Have both and edc the Sage. (2 Ti Sages should be on my door in a couple of hours:D)

This is mostly because I prefer liner/framelocks to backlocks.

Both are great knives so there is no wrong choice.

Edit: Sage II's just arrived and they are just perfect!

I have had a titanium and carbon fiber sage.
I kept my caly 3.
I prefer the caly3, it is a perfect edc.

Since carbon fiber is want you want, I would go with the Sage. I like the Caly 3, but I prefer the solid S30V blade of the Sage over the laminated ZDP blade of the Caly 3.

I have both and like the larger handle, and the lower thumb ramp of the Sage.
The Caly3 looks better, but I much prefer the Sage.

had both, still have the caly3. I love the sage and if I could afford to keep ALL the knives I buy, I'd have kept it, but I had to make a sacrifice.

Sage is a GREAT knife and I've been looking into picking up another one again, as well as the TI one, but the Caly3 is just awesome.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

For an EDC I choose the Caly 3, and the carbon fiber is nice. But I never handled the Sage tho.

Many prefer quilted CF texture of Sage over smooth texture of Caly.
Caly has thinner factory edge (I think).
Backlock versus liner lock. Take your pick.
Wider handle on Sage.
ZDP probably holds edge longer and may be more difficult to sharpen.
Caly CF/ZDP is more expensive.

I own the standard Caly 3. Very happy with it. I'm going to acquire the Sage soon.

If you think you'll often use your knife in very dirty conditions, then the Sage's liner lock is definitely easier to clean.

I have a CF Sage, and had a G10 Caly3.

I preferred the slightly smaller footprint of the Caly3, and I liked the edge geometry a bit better.

The Sage though I like the black wire clip over the bronze. And it feels better in the hand to me over the Caly 3.

They were too similar for me to justify keeping both, so I sold the Caly3.

If it were me, shopping between the 2, I'd go with the Caly 3. I just find it to be considerably more attractive, and if you're lucky you can get one on the exchange for $120-$130 (exactly what I hope to do! :P). I also prefer ZDP (even laminated) to (CPM?)-S30V, as well as Japanese to Taiwanese.

I think the Caly 3 is a little less comfortable in the hand than the Ti frame lock Sage--the thumb ramp and the finger indent just don't suit me as well as the Sage does.

IMHO the Sage is halfway between a Caly3 and a Native. Both are phenomenal, but the Caly3 is such a wonderful slim knife it wins for me. But if you have big hands (as I do) you'll probably agree the Sage is a bit more comfortable.

I have both Caly3 and CF Sage. EDC Caly3 for three years and absolutely love this knife, Sage never got to my pocket.
BTW, I like Native4 a lot as well and carry it on weekends. For some reason, I do not care about Sage, probably just do not like the blade shape.
