Didn't Sal say that a mid-lock design was approved?

I'm almost ready to declare the Sage my favorite Spyderco but that Paramilitary II has me conflicted on being able to say that in a firm way.

Its fair to say I have a lot of appreciation for several Spydercos!!

Here's the Sage 3 FWIW

That's the only Sage buzz I have heard

There is a smaller "sibling" for the Sage in the works and it will definitely be a midlock. The Sage III will have the Blackie Collins bolt action lock, and hopefully will be out by the end of this year. The Sage IV is expected to be a midlock, but I'd put it 15 months or more out.

You could always go with a native.

Naw, been there done that. Native just doesn't quite do it for me.

I guess I'll be accumilating all the Sage's as they come out. I carry the II (in my pocket now) and a NIB I is stored away.

I find it odd I'm about to start collecting a Taiwanese made knife but they are that good.

Although I would want to down size the Sage I understand that knife laws do impact the market for smaller knives.

Maybe this bolds well for an upsized Sage. Just a lot of possibilities with this pattern.

Paul, any idea when the smaller version Sage will be out, and is there any other info. regarding it?

Thanks,

Andrew

The UKPK is about as close as I've seen so far. I don't think I'd be alone in thinking we have about enough of those floating around now, let's roll out the TUFF! :D

No idea of timeline. IIRC Sal seemed to be suggesting that, unlike the Sage where 1 blade and handle style is used with different locks, the smaller version will eventually feature 1 lock and handle style with different blade shapes.

I wonder how much smaller. The Sage is only 3" so it seems to me that the smaller Sage would have to be 2.5" or less to make a difference legally. Don't get me wrong - I love smaller knives, just wondering about the reasoning.

Seem to recall hearing 2.75" mentioned, so legal issues are probably not the reason.

I think part of the "confusion" is that we're talking about it as a "smaller Sage", but, in reality it's just a new design with a similar handle shape. Sal's original description of the Kopa was "a big brother of the Kiwi". Since then, I've taken his "sibling" references with a grain of salt. ;)
