Got this one in yesterday. Appears to have a fair amount of it's original factory finish., judging by the blue on the bits which was the result of it being heated and quenched in their chemical solution. You can read more on this link if you like.

It's 12 7/8" with 4" bits. Very poor rehang was done at some point, with a 30 1/2" handle it looks like they used a broken handle and just beat it down on there then hammered in some various iron wedges. It worked, it still feels tight but no way I'll swing it like it stands.

Nice Puget Sound! I'm always looking for one that hasn't been abused. That one looks to be in good condition.

I don't know what you're gonna do with this but it definitely is in great shape and has a stamp to prove it's quality, origin and date of manufacture as a collector item. Guaranteed the original owner is no longer around to expound on it's usefulness or why he bought it either.

It's in good condition, one spot out on the bit has some pitting and these pics show why I think someone took a hammer and beat it out of the broken handle then beat it back down on the replacement handle.

My intention is to just sit on it as a collector item and admire it along the way. I've got my GB double bit to chop with and going to hit some flea markets for a nice single bit to restore and use. They seem to be more effective at chopping.

A dang fine axe! Never seen a Sager Chemical in person, same with one of them black ravens. I love the looks of these pudget sounds.

Man how awesome would it be to find a black raven at a flea market for a few bucks! They are the coolest to me.

Nice Sager! I've got two: one regular DB and one Puget Sound. While I may rig out and use that felling axe just so I can say I have, the trees that need that axe are the ones I'm trying not to cut down. :)

I also notice on my Puget Sound that the hardening went quite far up on the bitts.

Needs a little TLC and the nicest handle you can find, even if you're just gonna hang it on the wall.

I've yet to hang my first axe so i've got a TT Kelly Perfect double bit that I just got cleaned up and it will be first. If I get it right I'll rehang the Sager as well.

I bought a double-sided axe yesterday at a Goodwill "end-of-the-trail" store.
ANYWAY, they charge by the POUND, and I was at the 86-cent level x 4.6#; $3.96.
It is fairly clearly stamped as follows:
SAGER
CHEMICAL AXE
1931
I took a few photos, but can't figure out how to upload them. They're on an SD card in my Nikon.

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you got a steal deal on a Sager. The easiest way I know of to post pictures is by using one of the image hosting websites. I use imgur.com I don't know anything about your camera but if it isn't a smart camera you will have to download the pictures to your computer and from there put them on imgur. Select BB code from the pic on imgur then copy the link and paste it in this thread and it will pop up here. We are always up for more axe pictures.

Yep, if only they could talk. I'm assuming the beater marks are a lazy man's way of taking it off the haft and putting it back on a fresh haft.

I've got a nice 36" Haft I'm going to hang it on, doubt I will use it but it deserves a nice new handle. I'll post pics once it's done.

Not necessarily! I don't know how many hafts I did (and watched others do) 40-50 years ago when there were no real mentors or instructions around out in the bush or at the back fence about how to 'quick as possible' replace broken handles using virtually nothing but a nearby axe or hammer. Very few ordinary folks were aware that axe heads (except for the blade extremity) were quite soft when it came to striking steel upon steel and most couldn't be bothered worrying about dents and gouges while trying to do this anyway. I increasingly cringe when I look at the condition of the axes I had (and still have) that were used during the 60s and the 1970s.
