Ok guys... This is a review long since coming. Goose was generous enough to send me a BK7 sheath a couple months ago. I told him when he sent it that I would give him my honest feed back on it and let him know what I thought about it all and what he might/could do to improve it (if at all).

So first of all. I didn't take a pic of it when I first got it, so here is a picture of it from his web page.

Let me start off by saying that this is a very well put together sheath; very tough! I spent a good 2 -3 weeks carrying this thing everywhere I went. One thing that happened (due to no fault of Goose's design) I bent the kydex and popped off one of the rivet backs when I was getting into my car. If I had been more aware when I was getting into my car that would have been avoided. Regardless of that the sheath is still just as strong as it was before.

The retention on the sheath is great!!! It was a little tight at first, but after about a month of pulling the knife and putting it back loosened it up a bit. So she slides in and out very smoothly! Goose did a great job on the retention system. He made a reality of what I had originally wanted to do. I just couldn't see what he did to make it. Great designer and visionary!

The edges on the sheath are great! I was able to scratch them up a bit with my heavy use, but they will easily buff out smooth again. If you don't know how; just moisten the edge a bit and buff it out with a cotton rag/cloth.

Overall Goose's sheaths are very stout and durable! I recommend them to everyone who is looking for just that! So if you're like me and don't like to have to deal with the retention straps of conventional sheaths Goose at Sagewood Gear is a great option!!!!

With that I leave you with a couple more pictures and me saying if, for some reason I don't get back to sheath making, I'll be buying all my leather sheaths form Goose. www.sagewoodgear.com

Good review. When the knife & sheath have some downtime, send the sheath back, i am sure he will fix that up for not much $$.

Thanks for that write up Nick. I just want to say I didn't ask him to do a review, he was kind enough to do it on his own.

That was actually the first prototype sheath I made for the BK7 that I had given him. They have come a long ways since then. I now do the double stitching on all the big beckers (2,7,9). I also went with .125" kydex instead of the .093" for the collar and belt loop bracket. Those rivet have been replaced too. I was originally using 2 piece rivets(well 4 piece if you count the little covers they have like that one that popped off), now I use solid tubular rivets. When I set them, I wet the leather near the hole, which allows them to compress the area around them, setting them below the surface of the leather. That means the interior side of the rivet is well way from touching the blade, and will not scratch or wear off any of the surface. These new rivets are on there so solid now that you would end up tearing the leather before you ever got that belt loop to move (and good luck trying to do that :D ).

Nick had let me know awhile back about the belt loop bracket and rivet. Its because of his feedback that helped me to beef up the components on all of my sheaths. I do my own wear and tear on my sheaths, but that is only in my environment, and I can not replicate all the conditions that these sheaths see on my own. That means I am looking to you guys for your feedback to let me know how they perform in desert, mountain, wetland, jungle, or seasonal environments.

If you guys ever have any problems with a sheath from me, big or small, be sure to let me know. I will fix it or replace it free of charge, and make sure that every component of that sheath is as strong as it can possibly be.

The last thing anyone should worry about is their equipment, you guys got choppin' and cuttin' stuff to do.

I love these sheaths. As I was loading up my BK7 for the hike today I was thinking to myself how much I really need to get one of these. The standard sheath attaches to my RUSH 24 just fine... but I'd really like a nice belt sheath like this one.

Soon... You know... today *IS* my birthday... And I'll be happy to give it some use here in the desert. ;)

I have never seen a comment like this for a leather sheath or any sheath. Thats quite amazing and when i could afford a good leather sheath i would go to you because of this peace of mind.

And happy birthday uncle malice!

Thanks for the review, I've been looking at this sheath for the past few days and will be ordering one for my BK2 in the next couple weeks (car registration's gotta come first darn it!!). The design of this sheath is outstanding and I like the retention system idea alot. And it definitely passes the "good looks" test too, which not all serious-duty sheaths do.
