Well, I stole this pic from Tinbanger of AFAIK the first Sagewood belt sheath for the FK.

Anyone interested in a similar one for the EDC?

Here is the product range on the the FK, so you can get an idea what Sagewood can offer for options. Dangler, horizontal, pouches etc. They come in many configurations.

I know a bunch of us showed interest and that was enough to get Brian @ Sagewood to get the FK blank and offer this model, so I would like that trend to continue with the EDC, and hopefully the SK when the time comes.

The Kydex from Nathan is $50 for the EDC, the FK belt sheath runs $120, so it's basically a $70 difference to get this extremely well made sheath.

So I ask Brothers and if there is any women at all here other than Jo, Sister(s), please show your support for this model if you sincerely believe you would purchase one if the style and price are to your liking so we can give Brian an accurate idea of how many of us would like to see him support Nathan's products.

Thanks for your time!

I'm also onboard with a couple of full on Sagewood sheath. I have an FK on the preorder list and also I am aspiring to buy another EDC down the road and despite Nathan's recommendation against knives being shipped unsheathed, I will have to go with no sheath on my encore orders in order to distribute those funds toward Sagewood sheaths. I hope that Mr. & Mrs. Carothers will be fine with this idea.

I love the look of that field knife sheath. I'm a bit strapped right now, but I could see the possibility of adding some down the road, if Brian decides to go ahead with it.

I definitely would like to see/hear/read the Carothers' blessing regarding an aftermarket sheath for any of their knives at the expense of NOT ordering an original kydex sheath from CPK. Allow me to elaborate:

Admittedly I have not been around higher quality of knives as many of my other brethren on here but I have come to realize that we are extremely fortunate to be getting very high quality semi-custom knives at truly excellent prices and I have come to the conclusion that CPKs are truly underpriced as compared to whatever else I have owned, sold, lusted for or aspire to purchase later on. That said, I also know that CPK commissions a third party to make sheaths for CPK so in my logic by opting out of an original kydex sheath we may be doing two wrong things:

1- taking business away from another small operation who may be counting on these orders.

2- there may be a small markup in these sheaths for CPK and by opting out, we may be causing them a small loss, but a loss nevertheless.

I am not trying to create a controversy of any sort and having got a feel already for Nathan's laid back demeanor, I would speculate to add that he's too much of a Gentleman to even mention such matter which may be too trivial, nevertheless his expressed blessing would be comforting to know.

If Nathan only wants to sell them together I am OK with that, but as he said in a different thread he would accommodate selling with no sheath I went ahead with this thread.

I don't wanna bug him to ask as I figure he gets enough PMs as it is, and if he doesn't like the idea I am happy to change it. I know with the LC etc it was always optional, so I figured nothing has changed.

I saw his earlier response Justin and I think that the thread is just fine as it is. As stated, just a definitive word and directive from Nathan would suffice. I really don't think that Dozier who makes these sheaths is really hard up for the money but the collaboration between the Carothers and Doziers goes beyond just financial gains, if I had to hazard a guess ;)

Looks like Brain @ Sagewood sees how much demand there is for the EDC, and wants to support this pattern as well.

So he's gonna get in touch with Nathan for a blank, and we will see how the story ends. I will keep this thread updated.

Awesome sauce.

Have there been any updates as to production of a Sagewood sheath for the EDC ? I love my EDC but I'm not in love with the vertical carry kydex I got with it. This is my first fixed blade EDC and I have no sheath experience, but from what I have seen I think I would prefer a horizontal carry or a pancake style sheath, maybe someone of more experience could also educate me a little as to the merits of these different sheath designs. Thanks.

Last I heard Brian was waiting for an EDC before he can get going. He tests the fit several times through production of the sheath, not relying on a pattern so he needs a knife of his own to get going on it.

If you don't have much experience with sheaths then it will take you a little bit of trial and error to figure out what you prefer and when. Some people prefer the exact configuration others can't stand.

IMO the main consideration is if you will be getting in a vehicle. When on foot I prefer a dangler at about the 4:30ish position. A little back behind my hip and a dangler lays best here.

If you are bigger around the waist then making sure the knife carries low will be key.

Start with what you don't like the most about your current one and go from there.

For what it's worth, I picked up one of Brian's small-sized leather+kydex danglers for the Field Knife you traded me for that EDC, to use with the stock FK sheath, and it's perfect. Drops the top of the handle to about an inch south of my belt, and the knife rests on my leg. Not sure if it's possible to just add a dangler to the EDC sheath?
