I was just curious as to what Sak sheaths and Multi-Tool sheaths are most favored and least favored.

Hi kapt kopter. I'm not really much of an authority on sheaths, but it doesn't seem like you are getting much of a response to your question.

Regarding Leatherman sheaths:
According to various websites that sell Leatherman tools, it appears that each model tool is produced and packaged with either nylon or leather sheaths. (Curiously, the price seems to usually be the same either way.) However, if you didn't happen to get the sheath you wanted when you bought your tool, I see Leatherman sells sheaths seperately as an accessory item:

Checking through my more recent full-size Leathermans, I find all three different types of sheaths. A few have the cheap nylon-with-velcro sheaths. Several have the "old style" brown leather sheath that you prefer. Both my Charge tools came with the special leather sheath, allowing the user to carry the tool either vertical or horizontal, with the pliers either folded up or unfolded.

MY SAK rides "naked" in my pocket, though I did buy one of them a Leather Victorinox sheath (in brown). My Leatherman PST rides in the standard factory leather sheath as well.

That old Wave sheath is a real winner, you're right. Mine's lasted forever, and replacements are still available cheap. Nothing fancy, but it carries my old Wave (or SwissTool Spirit, or BuckTool, or SOG Pocket PowerPlier, or...) securely and with a minimum of bulk.

On the other hand, I actually like the "new-style" Leatherman leather sheath for the Charge. Yeah, I'm on my second one in as many years, but they don't cost much, and so long as they don't fall apart, they provide a helluva lot of functionality. I use a New Wave sheath (I prefer the snap over the noisy velcro) which holds my Charge Ti, one strip of extra bits from the extra bit kit, a AAA LED flashlight, and a Mini Sharpie, and can be carried horizontally or vertically on my belt. I think it's a superb concept, but I do agree it could have been built better. :thumbdn:

Beyond that, I've been packing my old Leatherman PST-II a lot lately. Again, security and convenience with a minimum of bulk; heck, the PST-II in the sheath is less bulky than most of my tools without their sheath! I also regularly carry a wide Victorinox sheath with stretchy sides and a sturdy belt clip; I use it to carry my Leatherman Juice Pro, Vic Champion Plus, or CyberTool Lite. Secure and non-bulky... I think I detect a theme here... ;)
