I’m hoping to build a three layer custom SAK soon and I’ll probably have the choice of one of two different back tools, the Hook or the Sewing Awl. Which would you choose and why?
Main tools will be the large knife blade, scissors and metal saw/file. TIA.

Edit: The Corkscrew on the Donor knife will be replaced with a Philips screwdriver.

The multi purpose hook is my choice
I find it more useful than the back side punch/awl/reamer.
I keep a 4 blade Scout/Demo Knife with-in reach for when I need a punch/awl/reamer.
The back side one is not so great for removing thorns from my (adult) trike tyres.

The hook works better than the can opener for lifting hot cookware bails, and it can be used to pull cordage/laces/wires, among other things.

EDIT: If you keep the split ring, and put the hook next to the scissors layer, you can use the hook to secure a "T" shank jigsaw blade.

I used to use the hook a lot on my kids sneakers untying the shoe string knots. My granddaughter is different, I don't think she owns shoes with strings. They all are Velcro . And for some reason, since I retired , I don't use the awl either.😳 That said, I'd probably go with the awl. If you need a small hole in something or need to clean/ream gunk from a small spot, that is a good choice.
