SAK Clip MOD

I own a few Victorinox SAKs and love them. Great knives, perfect for daily cary.

The only thing that annoys me about them is the lack of a pocket clip.

Has anyone out there ever attached a pocket clip to their SAKs?

I attempted a mod of my own a few months back by tapping a few holes in my old Alox Pioneer. It worked for a while but eventually the soft aluminum gave out.

Any ideas? Any tips? Thanks!

I've been using a Nite Ize clip on my phone for 8 months or so. They're great. I put one on a OHT just after Christmas. I'm not sure how it would hold on Alox because of the texture of the scales.

+1 on the nite ize clips. That seems to be the most common method of putting a clip on a sak.

I have seen the Nite Ize before. Always shrugged it off thinking the adhesive would not hold that well. Any experiences?

Scott Free, I think you are right. Fortunately I have a Tourist that I have never used and/or opened that should work great. Might have to kiss the old Alox goodbye for now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

As mentioned, I've been using it on my phone for only eight months. I trust it, though. Modern adhesives are amazing. I assume the tape is the same that it used on the Clip Draw. If it's tough enough to hold a gun, it should do fine with a knife. If it does let loose, you'll only lose the clip. The knife should just drop into your pocket.

How about a pouch/sheath with a clip? I've been toying with the idea of getting someone to make one in ultrathin Kydex with a clip for my Alox Soldier. I would want a friction hold (no flap/snaps), and it would leave about 1/3 of the knife exposed for easy access. Could wear it on a belt or in the pocket.

Wow, an excellent idea! Never thought of that.

It would definitely solve the problem of the Alox scaling.

Hmmm, who would be a good maker?

Be aware that unless your scales are "silver," this will take the finish off of Alox real quick.

It's a Soldier, so it is silver. Maybe thin, stabilized horsehide would be a better choice, just more expensive and less durable. I too would be interested in a maker. Maybe get off my lazy ass and get one made.

I've made a bunch of belt pouches for anything from an 84mm Tinker up to a Buck 110 - snaps or no snaps but using a loop or "slits" for belt attachment - It is not that hard a job - I've even "tooled" a couple - try it you might be amazed at what you can do!
Peace

Anyone have a picture or experience with that Nite Ize clip on a 111mm SAK, like a Rucksack or an Outrider? The clip itself seems pretty big and hard edged. Does it get in the way when you have the knife "in hand"?

Here is my 4 7/8" Trekker and 3.5" Hiker with the Niteize clips on them...very ez, just clean with the alcohol pad (included with clip) and stick----carefully!!!:) Also pictured is my 3 5/8" ALOX Pioneer Harvester with a clip I drilled and tapped and used red Locktite on. Not sure about the Niteize clip working well on ALOX or not---wouldn't cost alot to find out.

The Niteize clips have never failed---Period!!! These are in my EDC rotation and never have I had a problem with either the Niteize or the one I drilled and tapped---very very durable:thumbup: I also have one on my phone and it's been ripped from my pocket and the clip adhesive never let go---these clips are great in my opinion:thumbup:

They're comfortable in hand (for me) when using, even for long periods of time. The great thing with SAKS is if you try one of the clips and don't care for it the cost factor is not a really big deal---SAKS absolutely rule:thumbup:
