hi guys. i bought a victorinox champion plus 1 week ago from e-bay.it came to me in perfect condition (as always).but after i tried it 3-4 times (mainly scissors, small blade and the reamer) i learned that it is a discontinued model. So i'm curious if it will become a collector's item or it will be a regular SAK always.do any of you collect SAKs? and if you do what should i do with my new champion? if i use and abuse it like 3-4 years and then send it to victorinox for repair, will it keep it's collection value? (if it has a collection value :D ). or will victorinox just replace it with a newer model? and what is your suggestions for the beginner collectors? (SAK maintence, values, saks for the collectors...etc) well these are my questions for now thank for the help :)

You see old Champion models on (popular auction site) all the time. They don't sell for a premium. So use it and enjoy it. As for warranty work, it's up to Victorinox to either fix it or replace it. I imagine you'd get the newer model if replacement is necessary.

ok thanks for the information. so what about the SAK collecting? are there some particular SAKs that are more valuable than the others? i know some special models come with authenticity sertification lile the remade soldier knives.

Check out sakwiki.com. It's an awesome site. While it doesn't give valuations, it gives plenty of info on models.

In general, the really, really old models (like pre 1960's) and the colored scale alox models are quite collectable, with some examples fetching several hundred dollars on auction sites. Too rich for my blood. But luckily normal people can collect dozens of more common SAKs for quite good prices.

i sometimes read the SAK informations in the sak wiki. so the colored alox models are quite rare huh? hmm if i buy a farmer later i will look on to that :D

*The Colored Alox Models Are Rare.

And don't forget about the military issued SAKs. Those aren't only popular by SAK collectors but also by people who collect military items in general.

wow this thread became very informative for me :) thanks guys. i will use my champion plus comfortably and if i come across to any of the SAKs you ha ve mentioned, i will try to buy them. BladeChick777 , you mentioned the cadet plus. i know only one model in cadets and it's the cadet itself :D is there a plus version too? is the normal cadet discontinued like the cadet plus or do they still make cadet model? i see some cadets in online stores for farily good prices

Standard Cadet models are Cadet I and Cadet II. These are the Alox versions. The standard Cadet I has a nail file while the Cadet II has a small blade instead of the nail file.

The Cadet Plus she is talking about is probably a MOD knife where some have added a wood saw to the standard Cadet I package.

Cadet Models Info:
*There Are 4 Models. Cadet I, Cadet II, Cadet I Plus, And Cadet II Plus.
*The Cadet Plus Was A Production Run.
*The Cadet Plus Added A Wood Saw To Both The Cadet I And Cadet II.
*The Cadet Plus I And Cadet Plus II Were A Special Run Of 84mm 3 Layer SAK's With Alox Scales.

Rarity:
*The Cadet I Is Still Widely Available.
*The Cadet II Is Discontinued And Hard To Find.
*The Cadet Plus Knives Are Really Hard To Find.
*Though I Haven't Seen A Cadet II Around Either.

Fun Fact:
*The Cadet II Actually Predates The Current Cadet(Cadet I) And In Earlier Catalogs Was Simply Referred To As A "Cadet".

Yes, I Am Stealing Some Of My Info From Online Haha.

Since we're talking about alox models, here's what I'm carrying today ... an alox Pruner (single layer) and a Spyderco Yojimbo 2.

Really Glad We Could Help.
I Do Have Some Rarer Swiss Army Knives.
No Rare Alox Though.
The Only Alox I Have Is A Standard Silver Alox Cadet.

now i know we closed this subject but yesterday when i was reading some things in sak wiki i found this in the champion plus page in ''history'' section : ''The .R designator of the model number '1.6795.R' indicates they were at one time, or are, a special run.'' my sak's number 1.6795.R too so i started to ask the same question to myself again :D 1.6795 is also swiss champ's number. what do you know about this? i know champion plus isn't rare but this item number bugs me

The "R" Does Normally Mark A Limited Run.
But The Champion Plus Is NOT A Limited Run.
It Was Just A Revival Of The Original Champion With More Tools.
The Swisschamp Does Have The Same Model Number.
But The Champion Plus Is NOT A Swisschamp.
It Almost Is, It's Just Missing The Pliers.
