I just received this book:
17004_SwissArmyBook.jpg

that some have posted about.

It's pretty good - although not it doesn't go quite into the details that I would like to have seen.

Some almost annoyingly frustrating but tantilizing stuff are the incomplete tools list - this book merely used the SwissChamp's tools. Incomplete timelines, buried in the tools description.... The steel desciption/specs is again incomplete - apparently as posted here - Victorinox used to have much more comprehensive steel information posted on their web site - so this "incompleteness" is almost inexcusable.

This book actually shares quite a few pictures and information as this other (100th year commemorative) book I have:

In fact the photo I scanned from the commemorative book for the timeline of SAKs is the same as the cover photo of this book

Overall as a SAK book this newer one I have is "better" of the two - but with some noted reservations.

This book is relatively scarce in the USA - since it is published in the UK by Apple Press -

Victorinox Swiss Army Knives (A Collector's Companion)
by Derek Jackson
Apple Press (UK)
8.5"x5", 192 pages
ISBN 1-84092-235-4

It is available from a few places on the internet at $24.95 including shipping.

I got mine for $15 + $5 shipping from Paul Elsener at his

Victorinox Stores Inc

Westfarms Mall
Farmington, CT

Victorinox Stores Inc

I wish I knew of one as I have many old SAKs floating around that I would like to know more about and maybe sell...?

I wonder if there is a more comprehensive SAK book?

besides the two aformentioned books I also have these 2 from the SAK society
fbca2edf.jpg

The one by Kathryn Kane (1988) is actually pretty good - has tool-by-tool descriptions for both Vics and Wenger - although it does not have timelines.

The one by Rick Wall (1986) is anecdotes and trivia.

The Kane and the Jackson books are the best of the bunch - reasonable for SAK enthusiasts -
but probably no where near the details for SAKnuts like us.

Wow! I didn’t know there was a SAK society! (I get it, must be a secret SAK society!).

Thanks for the information Vincent!

I assume you are aware of the SOSAK over at the other forum?

That's the Secret Order of the SAK

http://www.knifeforums.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=SAK&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=

the url will get a "reject" notice - unless you've "registered" by posting a request on this section:

Gadgetman7 also posted here some information of a Victorinox Collector's Society:

Dan Jacquart, President
Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Collector's Society

Cochrane, WI 54622

you can email Dan Jacquart at:

Thanks for mentioning the collector's club UnknownVT. We do have some good benefits. Discounts on knives, current catalogs and a collector's society knife at a good price. The 2002 collector's knife was a black Yeoman with an inset engraved panel and an engraved main blade. If you're really into SAK's it's well worth the twenty dollars. I do feel compelled to mention that there is also a Wenger collectors society although I don't have any information on it. I believe you might be able to find out the point of contact by checking the Wenger web site.
