SAK Disassembly help

Ok. I keep seeing all these awesome SAK's built up to peoples specs for them. I want this on several of my knives but i don't ever like to have people take care of things I am capable of. That being said I would like to know if anyone has done or seen a writeup on the steps for breaking one of these down.(in a manner that they will go back together) If not maybe someone can do one which would be very helpful. I am currently working on orange G10 scales with a black liner but just want to do that extra little bit while I am at it. I have already been to SOSAKonline and the articles there are very haphazardly set up and difficult to go through.

Go back to Sosakonline and look for the article by Spork60 about making a Canadian Explorer. It explains breaking down a SAK pretty thoroughly, with pictures. I shows how to remove a layer from a knife, and reassemble it.

It works for me, with care. However be aware that if you take one apart you will lose some of the length of the pin stock. You will need to replace the brass pins with longer ones that can be peened, unless you are doing a layer removal.

Hope this makes sense. I could tell you how to do a it verbally, but Spork's article has pictures which make everything clearer.

I rarely venture over here but if anyone has any questions just ask. I may even know the answers.

Welcome to BF.

Yeah, I forgot about Gareth's article.
I would suggest getting a junker and starting on that unstead of your prized SAK.

Thanks Mike. That's good advice as well, get a second hand SAK like a Spartan or a Climber and pull it apart. Put it back together but leave out the openers layer (for example). That way you get to re-use the pins and find out if you like modding or not. If not then it's only going to have cost you a few bucks, if you do like it then you can move on to doing up your own configurations. You also end up with your very own SAK mod. :D

These are AWESOME! THanks for the help. I am going to start this project in the next week and will list pics of the process and the end product.
