I want to buy an alox SAK to carry around day to day after losing the knife I have been carrying for the last year or two.

The SAK alox Electrician is perfect for me in every way... except it does not have a keyring. I actually went to a local store tonight to pick one up and didn't realize it lacked a keyring until I had it in my hands! I really like the combination of tools- the little sheepsfoot blade in place of the can opener makes great sense to me. My question is- was the Electrician ever produced with a keyring? I don't think I can go with a knife that has nowhere to attach a lanyard.

I have been looking around on-line and it seems to me that the closest thing would be the Pioneer Rancher except it has a pruner blade in place of the sheepsfoot and it seems like only certain models have the keyring. Does anyone know which models had the keyring? Perhaps the older ones or special editions? I can life with the pruner blade but I am thinking I will have a heck of a time tracking one down with the keyring.

thanks,

I suppose you can buy a Pioneer and send it along with your Electrician to a modder and he can add the ring to the Electrician.

Years ago, I used grind off the keyring nub on hard use knives because it will give you blisters rather quickly if you do lots of heavy cutting with it.. It is handy to attach a lanyard to and that is important to me these days so I keep them on..

I'm with SAK GUY, have one of great modders fix you up. I've had a few modded and they do great work.

You could go the modding route but in the end your going to be into the knife for more than a keyring is worth in my opinion. That is unless you add some other tools and do a custom tool set to suit your needs. I hate to break it to you but the standard Rancher does not have a keyring either. If you want a standard 93mm alox with the keyring I would go with the Pioneer or Farmer.

I am just the opposite. I think the Electrician is almost perfect because it doesn't have the keyring. This just goes to show that all of us have different preferences. If I were to do any modding to it, I'd add scissors to it.

I am also one of those guys who buys a SAK and the first thing I usually do is take it to the bench and "remove" the keyring lug. I fooled around with lanyards on several knives and decided that I didn't really like them. No more pocket clips for me either (after losing a $100 knife with one). These days my knives are carried in a pouch on my belt or in a slipcase in my pocket. I spent a few years in the military and observed too many cases where guys lost keys, knives, radios, magazines, and other tools that were "clipped on". And when this happens on an airfield they close the runways, taxiways and ramps until the object is found and accounted for.
