I'm thinking about picking one of these up to use in a tiny repair kit and was wondering if they work easily when using just your fingers? I have a Farmer so no corkscrew.

from experience, they work fine without having to reattach tip out onto the corkscrew bladetool.
(i didn't say this...but it might be a challenge for those with "bear paws" or really large fingers).
the only reason i bought the mini screw driver was entire my lack of purpose for the corkscrew bladetool (though i suspect, many would think otherwise!).
in short the mini screwdriver is just that...a "small wonder"; that is, if you have a genuine need for such a minute tool.
it may not be my place to mention this, but one might be at wits end finding a better place to secure the mini screw driver, especially when without it's intended corkscrew fixture...

They work just fine in the hand. I believe Victorinox are coming out with a new version that has a hexagonal shaped barrel to make it even easier to turn with the fingers.

I have never used it attached to the corkscrew so yes, it works fine. As a matter of fact, I've never thought of using it while attached. New experiment for me coming up!

Despite the small size, its a well designed screwdriver which has worked for me, over many years (since its introduction).

Yep, that's the way I use mine. In fact, I didn't know you could use it attached to the corkscrew! Works great, BTW.

Not sure what is meant by attaching it the corkscrew. I tried to reverse it (tip up) and use it that way and it just turns in the corkscrew. Seating it in the corkscrew (tip down) for carry is the way it was designed. Did I mis-understand?

Cool, I learned something new today, thanks

I've tried that with mixed results. On some of my SAKs it'll get wedged part way down the corkscrew and you could apply a little more torque. On others, as Tim says, it'll just twist all the way back into the corkscrew. I'm not sure just how much extra torque I'd be happy putting on the driver TBH.

you could put it in the cork screw and then still hold it with your fingers, pinching it in the cork screw. But for me I would just use it in my fingers and be done with it. Only thing that putting it in the cork screw is you would not drop it.

I've successfully used that screwdriver on the tiny "point screws" in fencing weapons, which can be real pains. No problems, even with my size XL hands.

I would never use the driver while it was mounted in the corkscrew--that just doesn't make sense.

Same for me. I do use mine quite often - but always just free in hand.

Right! Every once in a while, there can be a situation like having to tighten something right now while standing in an overgrown field (or my living room floor :D). Drop the little screwdriver and good luck. Such happened to me once. But the corkscrew isn't really a shaft.

On my (relatively new) Vic Compact it stays in the corkscrew perfectly. I'm 99% sure this was described in the leaflet that came with it, 'cos I remember thinking that I would never have thought of trying it otherwise :-) I guess something about the groove in the screwdriver must be slightly asymmetrical, otherwise it wouldn't stick, and I wonder if this asymmetry is a relatively new 'feature' from Victorinox. I imagine you could put enough torque on to bend / break the driver this way though.....

Cheers,

I.

felinevet, I meant that I could never figure out a way to use the screwdriver attached to the corkscrew. I store it that way, of course.
