Why are some sak farmers $33 and some are $55 and some are over $100. They all look the same but obviously there must be some differences. Thanks

These days almost anything other than silver is a special run for a certain country, market, dealer etc. Many are sold by SwissBianco. But if it is indeed a Farmer it has all the same tools and functionality.
SwissBianco also does configurations not normally available like the Bushcrafter which is the size of a Farmer but only blade, awl and saw.

Ah ha ok makes sense. Thank you was wanting to buy one just wasn't sure.

In addition, on the big river site I have many times seen the same knife priced anywhere from say, $20 to $140, from different vendors but shown all on the same page. I don't know if that is a quirk of some automated price-setting algorithm, or an opportunistic troll from a sleazy vendor hoping to reel in a sucker or two. It seems to happen a lot with SAKs, but other items too. Would you buy the $120 Rough Rider, or settle for the same knife at $7.49?

Don't overlook pawn shops & gun shops. Lucked across this one, new but no packaging, several years ago for $24 OTD in a pawn shop. I've found lots of good deals (but much more junk) over the years by stopping in pawnshops. OH

I think you always pay a little more on that site for anything not sold by the site and it's particularly obvious with anything that has MAP pricing. It may be to cover some type of fees. I am looking to buy a Mnandi and have been looking at them everywhere most everyone have them listed at $375 but on that sit they are $399 so I checked out the seller turns out they are a reputable non-BF dealer and on their site sure enough $375.

Collectors will pay more for those in colors other than silver. Mine is silver. I think it was under $30 when I bought it.

Yep. I've between tempted to pay the premium for a colorful Farmer but then I remember one thing: Victorinox knives are made to be used! It's one thing if they're the same price but if you're buying the knife for a user don't pay double for a certain color. It's collectors value will drop dramatically after the first scratch.

Besides, buying any color other than red or silver Victorinox is like paying more for a blue John Deere tractor...

Also, I always recommend looking at the Victorinox Electrician Plus over the Farmer. It's almost the exact same but trades the can opener for a handy little sheepsfoot blade!

Yup. As others have stated it's usually a colour exclusivity and if they are being stocked by the dealers currently or running wild in the secondary market only driving up that price.

My experience with pawn shops is that they seem to be so proud of their stuff that they really want to keep it. Any and all knives that I have ever seen at a PS are absurdly over priced. I would have to be really bored, with some time to kill, and find myself right outside a PS to even bother to go in to look.

I may well be missing something here, but I do not understand why anyone would pay so much to a PS. Possibly they are depending on sales to suckers.

Mr. Chips, there is an awful lot of overpriced junk in pawnshops - but there are some terrific deals to be had as well. I've bought quite a few very nice knives for excellent prices and a very few at fabulous prices, most at quite a bit less than what I would have to pay on a knife site. I have to do a lot of culling, but the good stuff is in there too - about like an antique mall or gunshop. OH

Unfortunately, they quit making those a few years back. I still grab them but rarely see them on sale anymore.--KV ---I just looked and found a few on line. My favorite also.
