SAK ferro rod

Wow i just read that article about an hour ago and was thinking of mentioning it here. You beat me to the punch! Kudos!

I found that too, but do you think the ferro would be too short to get decent sparks from?

I think it would be long enough, i have one of those fire steel ferro rods its length is 44mm. The overall length of the philips on my OH Trekker is 36 mm. Leaving enough of a philips nub to attach to your ferro rod attachment the attachment can still be 30 mm long and fit in that space. I've seen a few ferro rods shorter than that. As long as its attached to something comfortable to hold (in this case a SAK) i think it will work fine. Also a buddy of mine has a tap and die set so i was thinking of threading the nub and the inside of the tube. That way you could set the rod in the tube permanently if you wanted. then when it was no longer usable you could just screw off the old tube/rod and put on a replacement. I have an old beater 91 mm SAK with a philips i may experiment with that first before messing with my Trekker.

I ground my ferro rod flat on one side to give more surface area, so I don't see why you couldnt make a rectangular one. Do they sell them already?
