so a sak is what got me into knives. sadly i lost my first knife, but i have one now. nothing fancy, just a tinker. but i love it. it is strong feeling and it does what i need i to do. anyonje else start out with a sak for their first knife?

Yes. I started out with one when I was 10. My father found a Vic with beautiful wood scales. I don't remember what kind of wood it was. Unfortunately it's gone.

I think a SAK would be a good choice for a kids first knife.

I figure that a kids probably going to lose it at some point, and that it would be nice if they could get another one just like their first. They should be able to do that with models like the Tinker or Spartan etc.

You can't beat a SAK anyway, first knife or last knife.

SAK got me into knives, that and MacGyver, never got a chance to have a good one until i grew up, but i never lost the interest.

The same with me. First SAK is the green MAUSER one. My favorite remains the Deluxe Tinker.

Recruit was my first SAK knife (i mean my first real knife). And now i own three...and there will be more. Its strange... when i'm about to buy a knife I usually do a research here on Bladeforums and other sites for user opinions and technical specs... with SAKs i just decide that i would like another one, i go and buy it. they are afordable, sharp, tough, small, light...should i go on..:-)

tinker for me, my tenth birthday, 1987. 20 years later, I STILL carry a SAK, a recruit this time. and I still have that tinker :)

Yep, started out with a Camper back when I was in Cub Scouts. I can't think of a better knife to start out with than a SAK. Everyone should learn on a slipjoint.

Yep started out with a Camping model since I was 12 and I still use it today. I used it alot when I was younger along with a hatchet.

Yeah, I started with a Buck knife, and then a SAK. They ARE greta knives. I STILL love SAK's.
