sak gets a boy suspended, principal sends the wrong message

Another "zero tolerance" school ! Zero tolerance = zero brains .

dangerous swiss army knives NEED to be banned, not only in schools but everywhere! The people of the united states will NOT tolerate the unscrewing of any screws, nor the picking of teeth, tweezing of splinters or removal of corks! Dangerous Televison characters such as McGuyver teach the youth of america that with a swiss army knife they can do ANYTHING, and this needs to be PREVENTED AND REPRESSED in order to make them good, complacent american adults. :jerkit: :jerkit:

I don't understand how a SAK can be even remotely thought of as a weapon, but I suppose the countless terrorists armed with victorinox executives are a REAL threat to our safety.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see how this miscarriage of justice turns out for the kid.

funny thing is, he was doing the right thing. he should have kept his mouth shut. sad that that's probably the first thing he's learned from this experience.

I heard about this last night and thought it was a joke. Unfortunately it's not a joke, IMO this student did absolutely nothing wrong.

A few months ago I gave my 16 year old daughter a SAK, she carried it in her pocket book over an entire weekend and then returned it to me before going to school. I asked her why she was giving it back, she told me if she forgot it in her purse and was caught with it she would be expelled.....

Someone should check the principals desk for scissors or a letter opener then fire him when they find one.

That is truly ridiculous. The kid turned it in to the authorities, and said he took it by accident. The knife should have have been held until a parent could retrieve it, or it should have been mailed home maybe as a registered package.

If the kids father doesn'k kick that principle punks azz, he is Truly an Amerrikan.
Complacent, brain dead moron who tolerates anything thrown at him.

Put 150 of them on a plane and you can hijack it with a toothpick..

Someone get the number or address of that school so we can call or write to them. Pretty sure that the boy will get out of those ridiculous charges. Still it would be nice to voice my opinion to them.

I'd agree with that!

If this does not start a groudswell of a movement in that townshio to fire that principle they deserve what they get. If I were a parent there I know I'd be stumping from door to door!:thumbdn:

There needs to be personal accountability in this world. If the story is accurate, then the principal needs to be see consequences for giving so much grief to the kid and his family. I carried a knife to school for years, and not some little SAK. And so did everyone else. And no one cared.

But, probably more likely, the kid will get off of the charges, the principal will get his thoughts across to the school (even if it's the wrong message), and then the control will be complete. If it happens again, they'll get to say, what were you thinking, you KNEW what would happen.

Let's do try to get this guy's e-mail address and phone number and hassle him until this is over.

A couple of new Morning Show hosts here in Alaska were talking about this case yesterday morning.

The vast majority of folks that called in agreed the kid needed to be punished, even if it was a tad excessive. an Anchorage cop called in and said the principal had done the right thing, cause otherwise "Zero Tolerance" means nothing.:( :( A "Self Defense" instructor called in and basically agreed. (He deemed the SAK a weapon, but not pens, pencils, etc.)
zero tolerance means zero discretion. it means grouping decent kids like this one along side gang banging nine totin' thugs.

I really try to be accepting of others opinions when they don't happen to coincide with my own, but...

This is so clearly wrong, I just can't imagine how any functioning adult can justify it?? I can't help it...I feel disappointed.

Well, according to the follow up article that I just read, "The district does not have a zero-tolerance policy regarding knives, but Principal Jimmy Meadows saw the situation as serious enough to warrant punishment. "

So this guy basically just set out to make an example out of this kid? What an ass. I hope they fire him, but I doubt that they well. Maybe enough people calling or emailing will stir things up a bit.

At least the school board up there seems to have a clue. They refused to expel the student. Quoting that above article again "There's no support, I'll tell you that," said Warren Township School Board Vice President Frank Hancock. "You can't justify anything about this. It's just common sense. The kid did what I hope my children will do."
