I just got a Victorinox 1H Trekker, new from a vendor, and the main blade is very hard to open. It seems like once the blade gets about 90 degrees open it gets extremely tough to keep moving. It's so bad that I need two hands to open the knife, unless I open it halfway then push the edge side of the blade against something to force it open.

I have another Vic' SAK that opens very smoothly, so this knife is definately different.

My hands are very strong, this is not an issue with me not being strong enough.

Can these be adjusted?

Cnt be adjusted, but what you can try is opening and closing the blade in warm water and apply some oil. Can take some time so do it a few times.

Have a look here:

Care Tips for Your Swiss Army Knife

If that does not work, Victorinox have a great warranty. Return it to the vendor.

as much as victornox will recommend suspending the pivot of the knife in warm water and working it back and forth i would HIGHLY recommend NOT doing just that. The reason being is if you dont get every last bit of water out it can and probably will rust further compounding the problem. Honestly these knives are built without washers and are sandwiched together in layers. Some come tighter than others. You got a tight one. What I would do is take a good hour and work that blade in and out as much as possible with a little bit of your favorite oil applied to the pivot area. It will take a little time as your essentially trying to wear the pivot points enoug to where they start moving more freely. If you want to try the water trick by all means give it a shot. But afterwards I would give it a shot of wd40 to displace and remove any water left inside teh knife.

Keep opening and closing it, if your ventureous you can add wd-40 or graphite to quicken the process then flush it out with oil..... Tht what I did with my 1H
