i have had and carried a sak on my keychain for a rather good long while. I have recently begun to think I want a pocket version that is bigger. What is your favorite sak and why?

I carry a Tinker in pocket (need the tools, screw driver and phililps - no need for a cork screw), or a Deluxe Tinker (in belt pouch) when out and need more tools. There are dozens of models of SAKs to choose from. Some keychain size, some pocket size and some belt pouch size. Just look around for which suits you best. Here's a link to an informational site that might help with your selection:

No matter what other knife I carry, there's always an Alox Cadet in my left front pocket. It's small, slim, disappears in the pocket & has all the tools I need for light prying, tightening screws, or opening up a bottle of root beer.

Keychain:
favorites are Minichamp and Wenger Pocket Tool Chest
Pocket size:
I go for Explorer, EVO S18, Executive and Pioneer X
Pouch size, or bag carry:
my trusty ones are Handyman, Wenger S52 and the always classy Swisschamp

But what is sure is that you can't go wrong with any of them!

A trusty Alox Cadet for me:thumbsup:

I've found that although it doesn't have everything I want in an edc, it does have everything I need. The Cadet is one of the best values in knives imo.

I have a few favorites, the Compact +plus is tops, has full size scissors super useful esp. for emergency grooming or trimming broken nail,etc.. and with the plus feature you get a pen(pressureized like space pen),small screwdriver, and safety pin for splinter removal, cleaning out small grooves in gear etc..
The Executive(more robust than the classic size saks) is also very nice, slim fit in watch pocket you will forget you have it, excellent for opening pkgs. ,personal grooming, has a serrated mini blade(orange peeler)have used to cut paracord, you can also use suspenion clip(can use with mostly all SAK's) to hang from your pocket
these are a couple of my favorites, YT has a ton of different uses that each model and tool can be adapted for

I'm another who always carries an alox Cadet in my LFP with keys, and a larger knife in the RFP along with handkerchief, usually a stockman. If I was gonna carry a stand alone SAK, it would usually be an alox Electrician: I love a sheepfoot secondary blade.

I don't need the scissors or tweezer (got 'em on my Micra), or the toothpick, as I always have a box of the plastic French Tickler style at hand. Nor do I ordinarily like to carry a 3-row model or bigger. This week, I am carrying a Recruit (six bucks on close out). Otherwise, I will usually carry an Electrician, for the punch and sheepsfoot.

Thanks to Black Mamba, who I see has spared me from having to post a pic of my own.

I would suggest the Waiter. Slim and a bit longer without the bulk associated with other larger models.

Alox Cadet. Next size up - Pioneer or Electrician. Cadet is my favorite.

For me it's the pioneer. It has a basic set of tools in a pocket friendly 2 layer package. Main blade, awl which is used everyday, Combo tool has more uses then I can list, and the can opener which at first I figured to have no practicality in today's world but I quickly learned it's just as handy as any other tool on the pioneer even without using it for its primary use as a can opener. The fact that it's a part of the Alox line and has added durability give it a place in my pocket everyday. No other knife that I own or have owned could ever take its place.

I believe the best alternative for a bigger size than Keychain SAK but not quite a full size tool is the Executive.

So slim (waiter or Bantham like in the low-profile) and lightweight it barely takes space, yet it has a very capable toolset and IMO the best suited for urban carry and uses.

As said, carried on a clip or hanger it is barely noticed, but will prove useful and a trusty companion.

To me it's the most complete tool in its range, something like the Minichamp is for the Keychain size or the Swisschamp for the full sized category

The recruit and tinker are the best and only cost 15$ and 20$ respectively, don't waste your money on alox because they cost more and give you less function.

I'm with Whetstone 39 IMO you just can't beat the Farmer. spear blade, excellent and useful saw blade can and bottle openers and toped off with an excellent awl.
But the truth is they are all excellent tools and you won't go wrong with any of their patterns.

I have the Recruit and Huntsman.
I would suggest you decide what tools you need or will use the most often, and get whichever model has those tools.
Regardless of which model you get, they are all good.

I'll second the Executive. Mine is carried Mon-Fri every week. For larger duties, I love my Alox Rancher. I have done some rather shameful chores with that knife, and it has never complained once. It has stripped wire and plastic, drilled holes in sheetrock and wood, pried, screwed, and done all other chores asked if it.

My favorites are the money clip lobster and the tinker. They are nice easy carries and have all the tools I need!

My favorite is the Swiss Champ, because I like all the tools. After that is the Fieldmaster, because it has all the tools I use the most, including both the saw and the scissors. Then would come the S111 or tinker.

O.B.

I favor the tinker, too. Although I currently carry the full-size 91mm version, I carried the smaller 84mm one for a couple of decades and never found it lacking.
