This is my dads knife and we were trying to figure out what model it is. I cant seem to find the answer. He is not sure how long he has had it but over 40 years because he used it in Vietnam. Thanks.

Yes, agreed; a pre 1973 Salesman (that's when they dropped the clip point small blade).

Yes I didnt know he had posted that thread.
And I did not know about this one..:-) The knife is clearly marked "OFFICIER SUISSE" on the large blade. 84 mm long, no hook and no corkscrew. Not to complicate things here but could the model just be "Swiss Officer" rather than salesman or whatever, or do I just not understand what the marking means.

Hi Colonel,

The 'Swiss Officer’ (Offiziersmesser/couteau d’officier suisse) - while it started as one -is not a specific model any more, but rather a type of SAK (both Victorinox and Wenger). You can find the “OFFICIER SUISSE” stamp in many different models.
Unlike the issue SAKs, the Officer models are considered upscale models. These are the ones, which after WW2 have been named “Swiss Army Knives” by the American Soldiers returning home. They have been associated with the iconic red plastic scales and (in most models) they have additional tools besides the ones included in the issue (Soldier/Standard Issue) knives.

A quote from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_Army_knife

"The knives issued to officers have never differed from those issued to non-commissioned officers or privates. A model incorporating a corkscrew and scissors was produced as an officer's tool, but was deemed not "essential for survival", leaving officers to purchase it individually.”

Also:

http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Officers+Knife

"The original Victorinox "Officer's Knife”...unlike the Soldier it was never part of a military contract.
...Officer's and gentlemen purchased the knife at cutlery stores.
...The Small-Blade and famous Corkscrew made their debut on the Officer's Knife."

Hope this helps.

You are welcome, Sir!

I am glad if I could be of any help.
It is pity, that Victorinox discontinued this model. It is quite compact, yet has a lot of very useful tools. IMHO it is a much better EDC than the similarly sized “Recruit” or the Salesman's closest larger equivalent, the "Super Tinker”.

I wonder how they chose the model names at Victorinox. “Salesman” sounds kinda funny and doesn’t do justice to this nice model.

Your knife shows honest use, yet is in very nice condition, which compliment both the knife and its owner.:thumbup:

Your knife shows use but
