SAK in the kitchen

I don't think I could function without an SAK or two in the kitchen. My Rucksack lives in the kitchen these days. I don't remember the last time I opened a can with a can-opener that wasn't attached to a knife. Anybody else use a Swiss Army knife or other folder in the kitchen on a regular basis?

Well, I don't use it much in the kitchen, but when I'm at work I use it for slicing food that the little plastic knives won't handle and opening cans!

I'm pickin' up what your layin' down Josh, but in my case it ain't a SAK, it's one of them four bladed, GI issue, knives that resemble a Boy Scout knife. It's got a different style can opener than an SAK, and can't really say which of the two is faster, but either one beats the sore thumb you get with a P-38.

Sarge, are you talking about the one with the metal scales? Great knife.

Yup, that's the one, used to be a standard fare issue item before Leatherman tools and such came along, seems all the ones I've had were made by Camillus.

Yep, that be the Callimus millitary issue "SAK". I've had one or two of them. However, and not to stomp on an American made knife, the Vic Soldier or Farmer (Soldier with a saw) is far better in quality.
In answer to Josh's topic, YES! I use one of several SAK's in the kitchen all the time. Before the Mrs. graduated and moved back home and became...well, the Mrs, I didn't own a can opener, bottle opener or a corkscrew. However, being a so-fist-o-cated batch-u-lar you can bet that most of my meals came out of cans and most of my "aftter-hours" drinks came corked or capped. I still like my SAK for the bottle opener. Use it every time i drink a beer. However, my wife's can opener is faster, and we bought one of those fluted corkscrews with the lever-wings. Much faster and doesn't chew up the cork as bad.
I also love the spear-point SAK blade for cutting the eyes out of potatoes (it's ze only way I can get zem to tal-k:p ). Perfect shape and washes right off. Ya know, my trifecta of EDC get's a lot of use in the kitchen. Small fixed blade from HI gets a lot of the chopping chores that my wife's knives can't handle. The SAK gets used for all of the stuff above. My SE Spyderco knives are great bread slicers. I'm not allowed to use them on food when her parents come over though. My wife says food prepped with knives that come out of your pockets makes people...:barf: Instead, I have one of those knife belts like they wear at the Japanese steakhouses that house her crappy knives...only I wear it with a cowboy hat....and a speedo. Hey, it's a compromise:D
