I'm interested in buying a mini champ. Any opinions on this model? I understand there are several variations on the mini champ (light, pen, tweezers, toothpick, etc.). Any comments? Which is the most useful model? I'm considering this knife to replace my classic. As you probably already guessed, I favor small, sheeple friendly knives. Thanks.

I had a minichamp on my keychain for a while and it shouldn't raise any alarms with the sheeple. It was an early model without the light. It was a neat knife and I found the sharply angled blade (I think that it is called the 'cut and picker' blade) good for opening up skin to dig out a deep splinter. Otherwise, I stopped using it when I wanted to lighten my keychain and now carry a SwissCard in my wallet and my small knife is a Leatherman Squirt S4 loose in my pocket.

I heartily recommend the Victorinox Mini Swiss Champ. I carry and use one every day. Small enough to be sheeple friendly, while having enough blades and gadgets to keep you occupied. I use mine a lot, and I will bet you will use yours more than almost any other knife. Cost is under $20, so if you lose one it's easily replaced.

I've carried the Swisschamp/Champion for the last 30+ years and don't ever remember a negative reaction when it was brought out and put to use..........rather the reaction is almost always one of fascination and intrigue!

I used to have one, and it's a great knife. Got rid of it when I realized I was only using six tools on it, and I could get a knife with JUST those six tools -- made it fit better in the watch pocket of my jeans.

But I heartily recommend it. I'd suggest getting the one with the pen and the tweezers, unless you always carry either two pens or a pair of tweezers -- but I probably still would, since I've never really used a SAK toothpick (except for cleaning dust out of my SAK), and the light wasn't really bright enough to be useful for anything other than finding a keyhole.

Thanks for your replies so far. Which features are the ones to look for? I was thinking about the midnight mini, but if the light isn't very bright then I'm probably better off by attaching a photon light to another model. I understand photon lights also go by model numbers(I, II, and III). Any thoughts on this? Which photon light is best?

That is exactly what I would do, I would get the Minichamp with the pen and the tweezers, and I would attach a Red Photon II. (A Photon II because the Photon I does not have an on/off switch, and I find that useful, and because the Photon III has had a lot of problems, and I don't need the extra features. I also don't mind that it's harder to change batteries on the P2. Red because it is my favorite of the long-life colors. If it's going to be your only EDC light I would suggest one of the short-life colors, but it's, of course, your call).
