SAK Model Question

I bought what was said to be a SAK SwissChamp Plus last night at the local Wally World (Wal-Mart). It appears to be a SwissChamp in every way except it does not have the pliers or staright pin. Can somebody clue me into which model I actually have? I have looked on the net but every one I come across has these two additional tools. They are redoing the entire store there and had it in a marked down section at the Sporting Goods counter. I bought it for $27US. Bargin? Or rip off?

I've seen a model at several Wal-Marts and they call it a Mini-Champ; I think?
Looks like it has similar features of an Explorer model. That price doesn't sound too bad. Target usually sells the Tinker model for just under $20 and it has less features.

You got an original Victorinox. The model at Wally World is called the Champion. It is basically a smaller version of the Swisschamp. I think the Champion was discontinued a few months ago. Still the same quality and guarantee of Victorinox.

What you have is the "Champion Plus" -
not the "SwissChamp Plus" -
there is no such model as the "SwissChamp Plus" as far as I know.

The Victorinox Champion (no Plus) was their flagship model, until 1986 when the pliers were introduced, and they made the SwissChamp.

The old original Champion had a Swiss/international # 1.57 93

scan from a photocopy of an early 1980's Victorinox brochure:

The Plus designation means they added the ballpoint pen in the handles - along with the other "upgrades" since 1986 - like the ubiquitous hook thing-y... anyway you can compare yours to the image and listing above to see the differences.

BTW - $27 for the Victorinox Champion Plus is a great price!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have been wanting a knife like this for some time, but just couldn't part with the money at the going rate. I thought it was a good buy, but when I couldn't find it on the web I thought maybe I got ripped. I feel a lot better now!!

This is it, except this model doesn't have the eye glass screwdriver that is stashed in the cork screw. or the ball point. Which from what I gather from these posts I have the later model with the "upgrades"

I just scored a Swiss Champion Plus at Wal-Mart for $27.

Once again, the plus model has the parcel hook, eye glass screwdriver, pen and pin. Run don't walk to your local store and pick one up. It's the same as a Swiss Champ sans pliers.

Hey VT, can you tell me if there are any sites out there where I can download the paper work to my Champion Plus? If there is even anything to download?

When I did a search for the "Champion Plus" I didn't find anything,
and I haven't even seen anything on the original Champion for a long time.

You might want to write to swissarmy.com, Victorinox.ch, or even WalMart.com to see if they can provide you with some "information"/specs etc......

I was about to ask the same thing when I got mine a few weeks ago. It has the hook, pen, and pin but no pliers which really upset me. Oh, well gives me a good reason to pick up a WAVE :D .

OT:
Did anyone notice the Gerber knife with the TiNi coating and Gator handle slabs for $20? Which model is that and what kind of sheath does it have? Thanks!
