sak model question

Hi this is my first post in this section. I'm finally going to take the plunge and buy a sak. The problem is that there are so many models to choose from that it gets a little confusing. I want to keep the model that I buy to as few implements as possible. The hiker model seems to be what most fits my needs. The only thing that is keeping me from buying it is that it doesn't have a pair of pliers. So my question is, is there a model that has all the tools that the hiker has plus a pair of pliers? And what is its name? Thanks.

P.S. Is there a site where I can look at all the models and see what combination of tools each model has.

The short answer is; no, not exactly. The closest I can think of is the Craftsman. That has all you want but with the addition of scissors and a metal file. Unfortunately it's also retired, but still reasonably common-ish. The nearest current models I can think of are either the Handyman (like the Craftsman but has a corkscrew) or the Deluxe Tinker. The Deluxe Tinker has the pliers you want but not the saw, it has scissors instead.

There's also the Super Tinker that adds the pliers to tools that are on the Deluxe Tinker.

It is instructive to think of the pliers on as SAK as being more like high powered tweezers or hemostats . The are tuff in relation to their size , but dont go reefing on nuts with them .

I recommend looking at the models with in-line Phillips screwdrivers. The Explorer, Champion, and Swisschamp. You'd have to go up to the Swisschamp to get the pliers with a saw, though, and it is probably a little on the big side for what you are asking.

The Hiker is an excellent choice. I carried one for years. Sometimes, to get all the tools you want, you need to carry more than just the knife, and there's no way around it. With my SAK, I also carry a Leatherman P4. It weighs two ounces, and has much better pliers than you'll find on a SAK.

A SAK plus a plier is an awesome combination. What I do not understand about Leatherman style multi-tools is how to use the pliers and screw driver at the same time, which is a typical use for me. Get a SAK and compliment it with a separate pliers.

There's also the Super Tinker that adds the pliers to tools that are on the Deluxe Tinker.

My super tinker doesn't have pliers. Small pen knife, large blade, phillips screwdriver, scissors, hook, reamer w/ eye, bottle opener w/ wire stripper and large flat head & small flathead can opener.

Thanks for all the help. It looks like I'm going to get a hiker and team it up with my leatherman if I need more tools.

Thing I learned at my father's knee:

If you use Vise-Grips or pliers on a nut - plan to fit a new nut.

A screwdriver and a lever for opening paint tins are two different things
etc etc

The Mechanic model is similar to the Hiker, however it has pliers instead of the wood saw.
