How to remove SAK scales? I'm talking about the plastic ones here, not the ALox. They don't have to be intact when they come off but it would be preferred.
I use a putty knife and carefully wedge it between the plastic scale and steel liner. You need to slid the knife around the knife breaking free the adhesive, then gently pry up and down near the rivets. Take your time and don't use too much force or you will bend the liners. Save the old scales and you can use them as a pattern for drilling new reliefs for whatever scale material you are going to use to replace them with. I use wood for most of mine just be careful when drilling your new scale material and don't over drill the rivet relief holes.
