SAK Multitool. Compared to Leatherman Wave: Opinions? Experience?

I have just now (today) become aware that Victorinox makes a multitool.

For a long time my EDC has been a Leatherman Wave, but I m not a "fan-boy". Christmas is coming and I am under pressure for a wish list from family. Why would I prefer the Victorinox tool over the Leatherman. I am agnostic. Convince me.

Victorinox makes a great multitool and I'll likely buy another one some day. But in my opinion, its near impossible to beat a Wave outside of a direct upgrade, like a titanium Charge. Thats my EDC, but I still keep my Wave on my desk at all times.

I've carried the Wave and the SwissTool. I prefer Victorinox by a mile! Every tool locks and the entire unit feels like a substantial step up in quality. Not taking anything away from Leatherman; this is just my opinion after all...

I have a Wave and several other Leatherman tools. The Swisstool beats them all by far if you get the configuration with the scissors.

The victorinox swiss tools definitely feel like solid tools but I wish they weren't riveted as out of the 3 victorinox swiss I ordered two of them arrived with rivet to rivet play. But aside from that they definitely feel like more solid tools than leatherman, not bathing on leatherman here. I have most of the models. Including super tool 200 and original wave.
If you feel "under pressure" to gift give this Christmas choose the crowd favorite Wave+ or the standard swiss tool

Thank you every one.

I have ordered a Wave Plus for our 16 year old grandson. Someday later on, maybe I'll give him an "upgrade" to something more "elite" from Leatherman or Victorinox.

I recently retired a Leatherman Charge Plus, did a bunch of reading/watching to evaluate my options (including the ARC), and went with a Victorinox Swiss Tool MX Clip. It's everything I hoped for, and more: smooth, sleek, refined, streamlined, tool-packed, great tool accessibility from the outside (folded) handles, thin profile, good clip, great tool mix, excellent and comfortable pliers, excellent ergonomics overall.

My only quibbles are that it's a fingerprint magnet (so shiny!); it takes some real effort to extract some of the tools, much as on some SAKs; and the knife blade is adequate but unremarkable. (It's rarely my only knife, so that's not much of a factor for me.)

I'm a fan of SAKs but I have three Wave+ tools and that journey is over. I keep one in each vehicle with the bit kit as well in my camping van and the third is in the kitchen junk drawer. That one gets more use than I would think but the lazy in me, who needs a screwdriver most often, doesn't feel like going downstairs to the systems room where I keep actual tools. My advice to the OP is get a gift card.

I have several Leathermans, and one Spirit X. The Spirit X is a beautiful, a gorgeous tool. However, that beauty comes at a cost: it is super slick. On one occasion, I tried using it when my hands were slightly wet and the tool damn near squirted out of my grasp. None of my Leathermans have ever done that.

Plus, since I have an Arc and a Wave Alpha, my Spirit X has been relegated to the collection. I like to admire it, but its carry days are done.

Yep. I almost dropped mine when using it slightly wet. It seems like a dangerous feature. Beautiful tools. I have swiss tool, X, and spirit x, all slippery, and heavy, bad combination when the knife blade is out

Thanks everyone.

Wow . . .so many folks have multiples of several different models .

My Wave is my EDC and it is clear that I look at it differently from many other folks. My EDC is what I carry (the "C") every day (the "ED" part). I recognize that others look at EDSC differently. My EDC is the Wave Plus at this time and it comes with me whenever I put on my pants along with my keys and wallet.

The opinions and experience of others with Victorinox and other Leatherman products is all good stuff. However, I intend to retain the Wave Plus as my EDC until something MUCH more attractive comes along.

I have a wish list of mods or changes that would get me to change . . ., but that is for another thread.
