I almost always combine a Tactical knife with my slippies. Usually it's a Subcom these days but occaisionally AFCK or an Emerson or whatever. The SAK or traditional slippie gets the usage for the day while the tactical is strictly for emergencies. Anyone else carry this way? Oh yeah, there's always a tiny yellow #2 Opinel on my keychain too.;)

prac n tac can get along in harmony just fine...and I dont even need kevlar lined pockets !

I have, but don't anymore. When I was in Afghanistan, I carried a Kershaw Onion (as the tactical/assisted opener/one-hander) and an SAK Tinker. I have several other tactical knives, but that was the one I took. Tinker got most of the work, because when I wanted to actually cut something, it did a better job. When I went to sit around in the Kuwait/Iraq desert, I added a very nice Case, my first. And mostly only used the Case. So when I got home, I gave up on carrying the others almost entirely, and stuck with that blue bone Case for several years.

Sometimes still carry that SAK, and frequently carry that Case, but almost never carry any tactical knives anymore.

 Guys, if we were all gathered at a REAL general store shooting the bull like this instead of in a cyber version, I'd print that out and tack it on the wall. In some of the nastiest, most dangerous places on the planet, what got the job done? A SAK and a Case slipjoint. Proof positive, me thinks.

Yep. Generally I'll carry a main blade for cutting. This can be either a tactical or a traditional. Lately it's been either a Kershaw Sapphire or a Case Sodbuster Jr with CV.
I also carry a "tool" knife. It can vary, as long as it has a bottle opener. It used to be an SAK Explorer, but since I got my Swisscard it's been usually a Vic Electrician Plus- similar to a Farmer but with a wharnie blade instead of can opener. My Vic Recruit scale fell off, and it was my first SAK. I think I'll order a comparable model soon.
I sometimes carry my Leatherman Kick, as well.

I usually combine my SAK or traditional with a "large" one hand folder. While I don't carry the tactical folder for protection, it is nice to have a quick access blade handy that is both sharp and robust.

Both.

A slippy (what ever the taste of the day is) for 100% of daily use.

A tactical (mostly Spyderco Native) for that 101% usage, and we should never need it!

I'll team up pocket knives, but there's no tactical's involved. Since I always seem to have a sak on me, my other knife will be a dedicated cutting tool like a small slip joint. Peanut, small stockman. Once in a while an Opinel. In fact, the Opinel is the only locking blade knife I own these days.

If a slippy is not up to the job, then I have a wood handle mora in the glove box of my Tacoma, and one in my "go to" day pack that goes on woods walks with me.

Once upon a time I had two benchmades, I wasn't very found of them to begin with, but they cost me a pretty penny (so they have to be the perfect knife for me - right? ... wrong!).

Instead of selling them, I carried them and eventually lost one. - My thought: hm where's my knife? Must have misplaced it, luckily I have another one.

About a week later I reach for my knife and It wasn't there. And I keep thinking: Oh no, now I'm gonna humiliate myself with my sak classic, how embarrassing... - Oh wait, why does it cut so much better that my benchmades? Maybe its isnt the price what makes the knife a good one for me?!

Next thing I know I find myself carrying my old Vic bantam ( the scratched one ;)) and Its working out great. Maybe I sould pick up some traditional slipjoints, me thinks.

After I tried carbon steel I was hooked, the rest is history.

And Peter and his knives lived happily ever after - so far :D

Now I mostly carry two slipjoints. One in my front pocket and one on my belt or in my front pocket. Lately its been my Buck 112 on my belt and my wenger SI in my front pocket.

I carry the same way. I always have a tactical knife for back up, of course the Glock 19 is ccw. You always hear the scenario why bring a knife to a gunfight. Today its the Microtech UMS as a back up and the bone stag Case XX Peanut for everyday cutting tasks as well as the LM Micra that is always on the key chain. Since I have had the folksy fever for the past 6 years or so I've started carrying the classic slippies so they get some use .

at work on the ambulane or in the ems office I carry a tactical folder....(kershaw baby boa) primarily because it was give to me by a co-worker..and he likes that I use it....even if it's to cut open boxes....i usually have a sak in addition to that when not at work I only carry one blade on my person and a multitool in my shoulder bag..on my person it's usually an opinel, a small slippy or a sak farmer or super tinker.

Always.

Most days it's one of these two combo's.

Benchade 550HG (or some other Griptilian) and a Buck 301

What about multi-tools? I have an old style(without locks) Wave strapped to my belt 24/7. Always a traditional, usually a stockman, in my pocket.

It's not exactly tactical, but I'm carrying a Leatherman Skeletool with a Schrade 8OT. Wave and stockman is a great combo, navihawk!:thumbup: I carried a Wave for a whole year and a half. Wouldn't carry anything else.
