SAK or Leatherman for a boyscout

Yeah. Though I love it, the Wave is as big as some Boy Scouts. Go with the SAK. I say the Explorer model. :D

Definitely SAK, and I say this as someone who loves Leatherman products. They are, however, two different concepts, and at the Boy Scout level, I believe the SAK will prove more useful. BTW, I am also a former scout and scoutmaster. Wonderful experience, both.

Longtime scout and Eagle here: go with the SAK. For my money, the Explorer, Huntsman or Climber would be good choices for a scout.

I was a scout, and still carry my explorer. I have the Wave, too, but find myself more often pocketing the SAK.

One handed SAK (forestier or trailmaster, i dont remember), all you need in a single package. Wood saw, partially serrated "Spyderco like" blade, (VERY sharp!!), punch, 3 screw drivers, can opener, bottle opener.

Easy to use, easy to clean, very good steel.

SAK! Any Vic with a saw,I like the hiker and fieldmaster for smaller knives and carry the trekker if I want a bigger blade.Nothing wrong with the craftsman though:thumbup:

I rarely recommend BSA branded gear but this time I'm making an exception. Victorinox offers several models of SAK with the BSA logo. Specifically I would suggest the Explorer or Huntsman. If you or the Troop prefer a locking blade I would go with Adventurer. It being an "official" Scout knife probably won't mean anything now, but years later hopefully it will be cherished and hold many special memories. I know I miss my BSA Wenger.

I'd pick the SAK too. 5 years in Scouts, all I remember using was a VIC Huntsman.

I think that perhaps the Craftsman may be too wide, I know it is for me and I have long hands.

I prefer the Victorinox Farmer, Pioneer, or Soldier, in that order. These models have the most useful blades and the strongest handles, being made of solid aluminum (Alox). Their blades/tools seem to be a little thicker and stronger, too. The Soldier does not have a keyring/lanyard loop, but the other two do. A lanyard on your knife can be a valuable addition sometimes.

the handy man has pliers and much more tools than my leatherman kick, and i already have the camper i am kind of mad that it does not have sissors though

You can get him the glow-in-the-dark SAK Explorer (or other models) too. That might be sorta cool.

nobody recomends a leatherman, the Victorinox handyman will arrive tomorrow. SAk's are not too popular with my troop because people can close them on their hannds, the solution to that problem is simple dont apply pressure to the back of the blade unless purposely closing
