SAK parcel hook - gets an unfair wrap

Nearly every knife review I see disregards the parcel hook as an ol timey thing that has no real use any more.

I have upgraded my SAK search criteria to include a must have parcel hook, it's brilliant and makes more sense than a cork screw, cap lifters and can openers. I don't drink alcohol while in the bush, every drink bottle I buy has a screw top and I can only buy canned food with a ring pull lid since all last decade.

Unfortunately to get my preferred tool set I need 3 SAK's which defeats the purpose of a SAK.

Life is a struggle, why must we be forced to choose.

I have dreams of a better world where everyone gets the SAK toolset of their choice.....was that my dream or did i just remember a John Lennon song???

Anyone else have a similar struggle?

I use the hook just about every time I wear lace up boots!!! Tightens everything up nicely!

I have made my own hook for elastic side boots, picking up hay bales, removing hot pots from camp fires and fencing tasks. That was before I recently became aware of the SAK hook option.

I haven't found the hook particularly useful. The caplifter/screwdriver is what I use most after the blade.

I dont own a SAK with a hook yet but the hook on my swisstool is useful for lifting the lid off a dutch oven

Victorinox used to offer a "compose your SAK" service where you could choose the tools of your choice (within the obvious technical limitations).
