Recently started adding Ivory Scales to several 58's and Ambassador knives. Although I cannot figure out how to post pics yet??
Just received 2 new Walkers today and will put Mammoth Ivory scales on both of them.
I also carved the slots inside scales to install a ball point pen and a larger sized SS Needle. Could not find as much need for the toothpick or the tweezers.
Questions:
1. Where can one go to find the brass pins/liners/extra tools needed to make your own SAK variants?

Appreciate your comments as I really enjoy working the ivory on the SAK scales.
Hopefully, I can figure out how to post pics too!
Thanks, Opee in TX

You get aluminum liners and tool parts by disassembling other swiss army knives. There are some listings for individual parts on ebay, but it's more cost effective to buy used swiss army knives and then disassemble them yourself.

58mm models use 1.5mm brass rods for pins. You can buy it online or at a hardware store.

74mm models use 2mm brass rod. Some really old vintages might have smaller 1.5mm pins.

84mm models have 2.2mm brass pins. 2.2mm brass rods are difficult to find in north america. You can buy 3/32 inch brass rods and sand them down to 2.2mm. You can also reuse the pins from other disassembled swiss army knives as long as the custom SAK you are building has fewer layers than the one you took apart for the pins.

91mm models have 2.5mm brass rods for the two outside pivots and 2.2mm brass rods for the center pin and the back side tools pivot.

93mm models have 3mm brass rods.

Some cheap brass rods shipped from overseas may contain lead. I prefer to buy USA made K&S brass rods. It's decent quality brass and it's easy to peen.

Some modders like to buy sheets of g10 in various colors and cut their own liners out of the g10. If you do this, then it may be a good idea to wear a filtered breathing mask.

Thanks for the suggestions on the pins for making mods on the SAK’s. I just finished up putting more Mammoth Ivory scales on a Walker today. So far, I have made 5 Ivory scaled SAK’s, I went to a lot of effort to carve the slot that normally holds the tweezers or toothpick, but added a Ball point pen instead that came from an older vintage SAK. I also drill a 1.5 mm hole in the end and add a large sharp needle with a head on it so it can be stowed and used to pull out a splinter in the finger, or some other use. Wish I had the ability to add pictures here, but so far unable to add pics.
Thinking of making a knife Mod that has a blade, a saw and a file, but I think that would require 3 layers, right??
Thanks again for your help.
