SAK Pins?

Hey all,

First off, I just wanted to say a quick Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Anyway, I am hoping to put together a SAK for my Grandfather this year for Christmas with all of the spare parts I have. I figured that I could throw one together to his liking really quickly, but I have come to realize that I am at an impasse; I am out of usable pin-stock and am in need of more (I used the pins from a really thick SAK I found at a garage sale and salvaged the parts I could and the pins...the things people do with their knives, I swear...). I may need some bushings too if I decide to use my spare plastic scales as I am out of those as well.

Where can I find pin-stock and bushings for SAK's?

Thanks for reading guys, take care!

You can get 2.5mm pin stock on amazon. K&S makes that size. http://www.amazon.com/Round-Brass-R...sr=8-3&keywords=k&s+engineering+brass+rod+2.5

For the 2.2 mm you need, ive never found a source, but putting some 2.5 in a drill and holding sandpaper on it, will be good enough.

For bushings you'll have to look for used SAKS cheap, as I cant think of any way to make those since they have a lip. If you want to be cheap as possible, peen the pin stock over a small nut insstead and then just use epoxy to fix the plastic scale on after.

Cheers

I managed to "file&sand" standard 1/8" brass pins to 2.2mm and 2.5mm, using the drill press trick. It doesn't take long after a bit of practice; you have to check the size often at first.
That being said, Syph007 screw method looks A-W-E-S-O-M-E! I'd love to know how he does it... :)

Sweet! If I may ask, where do you get those screw and coupling nuts (I think that's what they are) that you use in place of pins?

Man, you rock, thank you so much for the help! If I can figure this all out in time I will post up pictures.

If you're going to try the pivot mod method, dont forget to order some 1/8 inch carbide drill bits, you'll need to drill out the tools as they are a smaller metric size, 2.5 or 3mm depending on if you are working on the 91mm SAKs or 93mm. I drill the tools and springs, and then sand the inner parts so they are smooth.
