HELP... I love victorinox saks..particularly the rucksack, farmer and super tinker models... but I've had a few problems with them that have kept them fro being primary users...
first off let me say I open and close my knives allot (just a nervous twitch really) but after I month or 2 of use the action on my saks get really gritty, and hard to open and close it almost seems like the internal parts are grinding
...I don't normally use them on food stuff and rarely use them to clean game. when I do, or when they start to get like I mentioned I wash'em out with soap and water.. and give'em a little oil which seems to work for about another 20 or so openings and than it starts again...
I was wondering if it could be small scratches or pitting on the bottom of the blade grinding against the top of the backspring... I don't know I've never had this problem with other folding knives...just wanted to know if anyone has any advice... Thanks

hey John!

I've had the same problem. I simply use some soap and hot water and it clears up real quick. It might be something you'll have to lear to live with a bit.

Take care,
Brett

Riley,
I've found this problem on my ALOX Soldier.Open all the tools and clean the knife, clean the space between the tools and the backspring, then use something like WD-40 or Balistol.;)

That works fine for me :)

Cleaning with hot water & soap is a good idea. I use food edible mineral oil to lube them lightly after they dry. I never open a knife unless I intend to use it for some cutting chore though.

agree

I doubt it's any kind of pitting. Probably the oil is just wearing thin from your last cleaning. Also, jeans and other pants pockets tend to trap grit in them which can work it's way in.
To clean I use the hottest water from my faucet, some dishwashing detergent and a small brush for cleaning an electric razor. Then completely dry and I use 1 drop of Miltec on the joints. Open and close a couple of times, hit the joint with a hairdryer and then wipe off excess. That keeps my joints smooth for months.

then use something like WD-40 or Balistol.;)

I've read and had happen that WD-40 and other similar type products will attract more stuff/grit. Soap and Water is the best, followed by blasts of air.

try and find out what it is that's causing the problem bro (the dirt) then go from there.

Thats the one thing I dislike about saks, I think its the strong springs & tight fit of the blades paired with steel on aluminum that makes them get that way.I never oil any of them anymore, by the end of the day the oil has collected so much grit the knife feels like its grinding itself apart! I clean them out with hot water and soap, let em dry and add a tiny amount of moly past to the joint, work it in then wipe off the excess. Just a film of the moly keeps the friction down and doesn't collect grit, in between washings I just brush the joints out! That usually works about 2 months for my edc before I have to clean and moly again.
