Hi hope someone can help me with this.

What exactly is Alox? Aluminum Oxide? And same question for Elinox. Are they physically different or are these just two different terms used at various times by manufacturers for the same material. Maybe even a link to an article explaining some of this. I am kind of getting hooked on older Swiss Army Knives and I have a couple of Alinox SAKs and just bought another one. And there could be an Elinox one in my near future.

Thanks so much in advance.

Alox is just aluminum. Elinox is an older trademark for Victorinox Swiss Army Knives(SAKS). One (Alox = Aluminum + Inox (non-rusting) from the French). The other is a trademark on the tang of older Victorinox SAKS. Elinox is a contraction of Elsener, (Carl Elsener family, owner/maker of Victorinox) and Inox. The Elinox trademark was used in the mid 1950's as best I recall. Best info site around is:

http://www.sakwiki.com besides great info on nearly all SAKS ever made, has a great links page.

Everything you wanted to know about SAKS, but were afraid to ask :-)

Also, good article on Wikipedia:
