Not sure if this is the right forum -- maybe it should go in one of the knifemakers forums...

I'm gunning for a Swisschamp XLT, but the only color it seems to come in is that gnarly looking translucent red. I like the classic red; I like black; I like translucent blue.

Now, I remember reading that the scales just "pop off" -- well, that's all well and good. But has anyone stuck them back on since? And do you guys think it would kill the warranty? I doubt it, since it's Victorinox and all, but I wanted to make sure...

Any thoughts?

My trusty old Tinker's scales got to the point that they really looked terrible. I threw it in a beaker of boiling water and the scales popped right off. Just simply epoxied on a set of red linen micarta and they look much better now. You simply have to recess some holes on the backside of the scales to fit over the pins holding the knife together. Good luck.

I bought new scales for several of my SAKs from http://www.pizzini.at/. It was about $20 for 4 sets to be shipped to California. I only bought white but other colors are available. Just tap them on with a mallet.

Frank,

I've been looking for the handles like the Swisschamp for my Tinker. Did the handles that you ordered have the place for the writing pen and the straight pin?
