Bought this Wenger used on ebay. I don't know if this is a factroy mistake or a modification by a prior owner but I like it. The inner edge of the bottle top lifter is ground at an angle and is sharp. It makes a great ferro rod scraper and you don't have to worry about ruining your blade or awl. the bottle top lifter is still functional and the screwdriver isn't weakened
Does anyone see a down side to this? would you reccomend this as a factory mod? another SAK function at no or minimal cost?

maybe someone at the factory mistook it for the can opener and started grinding an edge on it

thats the wire scrapper on older saks, my 83 wenger has it as well, this was before they changed to the notch thing in the more recent ones.

Dang! and here I thought I had found something new.
I wish Victorinox & Wenger would still do it the old way it seems more useful to me and it really does make a great ferro rod scraper.
The new style wire scrapers are great if you are running wire to field phones but other than that what are you going to use that little notch for? Anybody actually ever used it other than to see how it works?
I'm still going to mod my Vic Farmers which are my favorite EDC knives and if I could only have one that would be it.
By the way the knife shown is a 1993 Wenger "Official Issue" mod. I have another that is a 1998 and it has the new style. funny thing is that on the Wenger web site it doesn't mention a wire stripper in the specs or show it in the picture.
