I really love serrated blades on a pocket knife, but it seems that choices are limited in more traditional patterns (I consider the 91MM SAK a traditional pattern), with more serrated knives being the tactical variety.
I picked up a serrated Victorinox Spartan off eBay for a very reasonable price. I immediately fell in love with the super sharp serrated blade, which is great for cutting fruit, bread, or nearly anything. It is a wicked sharp blade that seems to never get dull, no matter how much you use it.
I also really love the slim design. This is a perfect knife to carry when I go visiting clients or to conferences (I check my knife with my checked bags), as the slim design carries nicely, providing me with a razor sharp knife and some valuable tools.
I was browsing Swiss Bianco's eBay listings, and noticed he had some scales for the "Plus" models in 91MM. This intrigued me, as I had heard that it is really easy to replace scales on a SAK, so I ordered a set, because it occurred to me that all I needed to do to make my knife a plus model (which includes a place to hold a pin and ballpoint pen, as well as the ubiquitous toothpick and tweezers) was to change the scales. The only color choices he had were yellow, white, and blue, so I opted for yellow.
It took me only about 5 minutes to change out the scales. They pop off nicely if you slide a thin blade in between the scale and aluminum side. The easiest way to do this it so remove the toothpick and tweezers and slide a thin blade carefully in and gently pry the scales off. Once the old scales are off, just snap the now ones on (they only fit one way), and I used a vice lined with some leather to gently squeeze them flush with the knife.
I had a spare pin, ballpoint pen, and small screwdriver (all easy to find on eBay) and just added them to my knife and I then had a brand new model, custom made by me.
I have decided to call it "The Consultant". Here is a picture with all the parts:
