In this thread, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/newreply.php?s=&action=newreply&threadid=174381 , I noted that Victorinox had forgotten to put the hole in the awl in the Pocket Service Tool. Rather than detract from that thread, I am continuing the RANT here where people can ignore it without missing too much.

RANT  How do otherwise brilliant manufacturers do this? I can understand how Leatherman could leave off an awl, that was a tough decision, but how could they forget to stamp in the measurements? I wish they had forgotten to stamp the name and remembered the measurements. Despite the hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of hours of brilliant engineering designing the WAVE, something they had already figured out is left off??? What they need to do was add metric measurements, not remove inches. Why don't they fix this? The tooling must need adjustment on occasion, and the name is already being stamped. If they cannot add it, how about changing the stamp from Leatherman to measurement lines. Which one would you buy?

The Pulse fixed the undersized lanyard hole to a size a human could fit something in and put the measurements back on, why don't they retrofit the WAVE? Anybody else feel this way? If the WAVE wasn't so good, I wouldn't mind so much. I bought another to keep at work and the small, easily remedied deficiencies had not been fixed, nor has Leatherman ever commented on them. OK, I confess, I also got another one for home, for when I misplace my first one. It had not been changed either....of course I got the second set at the same time. ;)

Another example, IBM had a great keyboard for how many years on their selectrics and then they come out with a different keyboard for the PC! Hello!!!??? Couldn't these companies have hired a temp for one day. What self-respecting temp wouldn't notice these problems? Once I was talking to someone from CrossTalk, it could have been a sales call or perhaps I called for technical support. I commented on a couple of problems. The snippy response, well, "everyone else likes it, they don't say anything. Within a year or so, Out of business!!!

Another example of DUH!!! VisiCalc a spreadsheet that pioneered in the field, great name recognition, although it was suffering from fierce competition. They decided to change the name to make it more ??? consistent with the new corporate structure. Tanked after that, I have NO idea what the new name was.

Did I have too much coffee today? Actually for the record, only one mug at 6 am. :)

Just to make sure no one misunderstands, I love my Leatherman WAVE!! :D Actually, please let me make my own correction, WAVES

I would just like to see a few small oversights taken care of. (They have been discussed elsewhere.) After all I liked it enough to get three. Of course, if they were fixed, I would be hoisted on my own petard, being the proud possessor of three, without the new nifty corrections.

So go out and buy a WAVE, just be sure to put a little rant on the registration form. :D

X-MAs present two years ago almost, the only item that I specifically "asked" for...

I use it daily...and I love it. (Loose joints or not...lol)

Gatekeeper,
I never really thought about it. Mine will move just barely 1/16 inch. Once opened for plier use, it does not have any significant play.

Does not bother me or affect its performance. I suppose when I am using one of the four locking tools, if I flex my hand, I can make it move, but I never notice this when actually using it.

Melvin,
Good Christmas present! I got it myself, if I had asked, I would not have gotten it, and just as bad, my spouse would know what it cost. ;) A variation on the don't ask, don't tell policy. ;)

It is very useful. I just got the Tool Adaptor for the Wave. It works very well. Now if I can just find someone to mount a good awl, with a hole, on a hex bit; a RemGrit blade on a hex bit, and find a T6 (number 6 Torx) in a hex bit, I'll be all set. I have a Torx bit set, but it does not go down to T6, and the Sears I went to did not have one, although since I was the second person to ask in a week, he promised to get some. Perhaps the other person has an EDC with a loose clip, i.e. sprung.

It will be an EDC again when I can remove the clip, gently bend it back and reinstall it. This is another Rant I keep meaning to put in the Camillus forum. The knife can't be an everyday carry, if a user cannot fix the clip themselves. To bend the clip back into shape and make it tight would distort it too much without removing it first. Either Camillus should include or at least offer a T6 bit, or they should swith to a allen screw that one would be more likely to have or be able to get. Home Depot does not have a T6 in any form.

Sure Camillus would fix it, but who wants to send a knife back because a clip is inexplicably sprung...probably caught on something. Moreover does Camillus really want to be getting these EDC's back and returning them, just to adjust the clip.

By the way the clip worked great at the beginning. A nice design.

===============================

Serious question, what the heck is that hole for anyway? I've never used it.

I agree 100% on the measurements on the Leatherman, by the way.

My Wave, when closed, has handle flex which is esp. noticeable when I use the tools, but not much when the pliers are open, though the joint of the pliers is much looser than on any other tool I own except my Swisstool. It used to bother me, but I find now that sometimes the looser pliers joint allows me to use the pliers more easily.
