I guess you are talking about Victorinox because the frame of Wenger's Swiss cross is roughly squarish. SAK is not a brand name, so it would be helpful for the experts on Swiss Army Knives (UnknownVT comes to mind) if you could specify if it's actually a real Swiss-made specimen.

The only differences in the "coat-of-arms" I noticed is that older models lacked the "dent" in the frame that can be found on their current lineup.

You don't go there very often, do you?

nope howd u ges? it says victorinox has the same writing as my friens newer one...

How old is the knife? I'm not aware of any changes in a long time. By the way, what model is it? If it's the Soldier (silver-colored alox scales, with large blade, reamer, bottle opener, and can opener) the shield will be different than all other Vics. And from the picture you've drawn, that's what you may have.

its not a soldier its got large and small blades a can opener and bottle opener corkscrew reamer thingy (not sure how to use ) and plain reed plasic scales now that the silvery stuff is not in it any more it fell out

The simpler sheild you've drawn there looks like the Swiss Army crest. That sheild is only put on the Soldier model (Wegner Standard model), the Soldier/Standard is also the only SAK that is dated (on the reverse of the master tang). All other Victorinox models have the standard Victorinox sheild.

There's a great article about the Soldier in the December issue of Knife World.

how would i look at the master tang where is it would i have to take the scales off?? and what is on the soldier/standard as functions go?

The large blade should have markings on it at the base of the blade which should be easy to see. For example: VICTORINOX SWITZERLAND STAINLESS ROSTFREI. If not, it might be copy/clone.

mine says that and on the ther side of it i think it say swiss oficer... im not quite sure because knife is at other parents house
