What type of steel does SAK use for their knives? I was just curious and would appreciate any input from you guys.

All I know is that it is good steel that even a crummy sharpener like me can get crazy sharp.

May I suggest the Search feature? I'm sure the question has been answered definitively in the past.

All I care is that its "works for me" steel.

Vic says they use a crome molly steel imported from france and germany, not sure what it is exacly but I like it, takes a fine edge and easy to sharpen.

It's closest name brand relative is 12C27M.

Here's the numbers:
Carbon 0.52%
Manganese 0.45% (12C27M is at 0.4%)
Chromium 15% (12C27M is at 14.5%)
Molybdenum 0.5%
Silicon 0.6 % (No Silicon in 12C27M)
HRC 56

msiley's numbers are what I have listed for Victorinox's proprietary steel. The cutting blades are hardened to 56 but other tools get a different heat treat to make them tougher since many of them don't cut.
