Some SAK's like the Compact come with a straight pin (not sewing pin with eye)- what is this good for? You can rub on silk to use as improvise compass but what else?? I am curious
Thank you
Martin

You can fire-sterilize it and remove splinters or you can use it to hold two pieces of cloth together while you sew to make repairs.

You could plunge it again and again into a wax efigy of the SOB that drove into the side of your car in the parking lot and drove off without leaving his details. Thats what I'd do if I had a pin to hand right now!

Man, that just sucks, Have you asked the supermarket manager if they have a surveilance tape of the parking lot?

Drain blisters and pick splinters is mostly what I have used mine for. I've used it a few times to clean out things liked gunked up screw holes and eyes in large sewing needles.

Thank you for replies, picking splinters should have been obvious! :footinmou
By fire heating to sterilise, does this make the pin more susceptible to rusting?

Or you can use them like this:

These are from a Victorinox features flyer.

Fire sterilizing the needle might make it more likely to rust but it would be easy enough to replace it after having used it. You get a dozen free with each new dress shirt. I have also used them for cleaning out the jets on a stove.
