SAK vs. Leatherman screwdrivers

I've read that, overall, Leatherman tools are much better for working around computers and such. This is because of recessed screws and the relative shortness of SAK screwdrivers compared to those on Leatherman multitools.

I've seen longer SAK screwdrivers on the Victorinox Outrider, Hercules, and WorkChamp. They offer long, fine phillips and regular phillips. These knives are not sold in the U.S. And they look like great knives.

Why doesn't Victorinox offer these knives here in the U.S?

Perhaps they could offer their medium and small flathead screwdrivers as separate rather than combination tools. That would go a long ways in helping to counter some of the screwdriver-related criticism aimed at SAKs.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I bought a workchamp from www.swiss-knife.com which has those screwdrivers. I didn't use them but they seem very well-made. The aforementioned supplier is in Switzerland, so I had to wait a week or so for the knife to arrive. Also, when you look on their website, you will find that the prices are in Euros. But you can add the knife to your basket and go to checkout where the price will be given in US Dollars. I think I paid $40 or so + shipping for the Workchamp. The owner or representative enclosed a handwritten "Thank You" and plastic business card in the package. I thought that was a nice touch. I ordered a Minichamp from the same place. They also carry the Hercules model and any others you can dream of. I hope this helps!

Hey, if you want a Victorinox for working on computers, I believe I remember swiss-knife having several variants of the Cybertool as well.

For me, I like to carry both SAKs and Leatherman tools. Or sometimes one or the other.
For me, it depends on what screw, and the placement of the screw. In certain situations I've found the Leatherman screwdrivers to be inconvenient and the small SAK worked better. Other times, the way a certain SAK screwdriver is designed, for example the can opener blade might scrape against a surface and be terrible, and the Leatherman will work fine.

The fine screwdriver on the Leathermans does not work on my glasses which i need it for, but the tiny Vicrorinox and even a small Wenger fine screwdriver works great. And for heavier screws I would turn to the Leatherman.

If you are wondering about the screwdrivers for computer use, then I think you should really consider the Cybertool. I think it has the best reach for small places. I have the SuperTool as well as SwissChamp, and I think that the screwdrivers of the SuperTool have better reach - small handle would help also (the handle of SwissChamp isn't as small as with other Victorinoxes)

If you are more interested in the screwdrivers for general use, then the screwdrivers of Leatherman (SuperTool - at least!) are much better than those of Victorinox. As much as I am a Victorinox fan... they work to some extend, but not for tough jobs. This is because Victorinox polishes all the screwdrivers, and that causes the edges of the screwdrivers to be rounded. This makes them slip out of the screw very easily. The edges of Leatherman screwdrivers are quite sharp and therefore they hold on to the screws better. They don't slip as easily. (This has been quite evident after using the SuperTool and SwissChamp for long time - SwissTool has the same finish on it's screwdrivers as SwissChamp...) This and the fact that SuperTool has better pliers (needlenose) than SwissTool are the two major reasons why I never bought the SwissTool. Sure it's prettier, but not as functional (although I admit the closing of the blades is good - opening... not that much better, specially as they are usually so tight that my fingernails break before opening all the tools

But back to computer use... there you probably would be best of with the CyberTool.
