SAK vs. The Parking Meter

I was in Edmonton for my wife's appointment with an endodentist. I dropped her off and parked the car across the street. I walked up to the parking ticket machine, and dropped four dollars into it. The coins didn't drop. They were stuck.

The coin return did not work.

I pulled out my blue-handled SAK Climber, thought for a moment, and then opened up the main blade. I poked it into the coin slot, and used it to maneouvre the coins into position so that they could drop.

A man walked up behind me. He asked if I had gotten the machine unstuck. He told me that he had also dropped four dollars into it. I showed him my little knife, and pulled the coins out of the bottom of the machine. I split the money into two piles and offered him one, suggesting that he use it to buy himself a SAK.

That $30 SAK made $14 that day.

huntsman and rucksack are allways with me, too many uses for them, glad you found one aswell. :D

I've a friend who recently saved his life with a SAK.

He was in a foreign country, in a university, when a very violent riot broke out, with trucked in, armed antagonists. The crowd was headed his way, and he and some other students found themselves trapped in front of the violent crowd with a locked door in front of them, from which the handles were removed.

Fortunately, the SAK can opener fit the lock, and he opened the door and escaped.

SAKs are great, and McGuyvering never stops!

i dont know if i woulda wanted to have a cop see me during all this lol, just a thought.

That's awesome. It's just further evidence that everyone needs a SAK.

Very cool. I carry my SwissChamp XLT everyday : )

Great, there actually is someone else! Everyone I know thinks I must be the only person that carries around the XLT everyday! :D

The scaler/hook disgorger is perfect for many similar tasks.

LOL, yes thats an old trick thats quite common over here in Sydney Australia....What the crooks do is jam an obstruction in the coin return...usually paper, and the coins pile up...then they do the rounds unplugging the paper and collecting the money! How do i know??? LOL i fell victim to it a couple of times before working out the scam...

nice, I'll be walking around the city with a pocket full of paper:p

Along with my SAK, I usually carry a 3-4" handmade fixed blade. The $200 knife I had with me was too big to fit the slot. It took the little SAK to do the trick.

I consider myself a little bit of a knife missionary, helping people and spreading the good word.

Great story. Anyone remember the opening scene to Cool Hand Luke?

I'm pretty sure there's a couple of other people that EDC and XLT too. I've seen them in random posts. I use that pocket hanger Victorinox offers, it works well.

The tweezers on my SAK saved the day at a Stones concert once.

If you push the spring on the pliers over to one side, they will lock into place and hold small paper objects. :D

Last time I was at my girlfriends house, her mom had to take off her license plate to remove the cover and put on new registration stickers. She went inside to get a screwdriver (As I was telling her I had one). By the time she came back out I had it off thanks to my Vic Classic.
