Excuse my ignorance

but I've noticed the SAK knife mentioned several times, most recently in Choose one survival knife, and was wondering where I might find some info on it as well as pics. Who makes it? I'm curious because it was mentioned in a thread along with the Cold Steel SRK, which I'm waiting to be delivered. Thanks again.

Swiss Army Knife, because we don't have enough TLA's in our lives already.

(Three Letter Acronym)

Also used because the term is generic. There are, confusingly enough, two "original" brands. The "original" SAK is Victoronix and the "genuine" is Wenger. Or do I have that backwards? :-) Then you have all the non-swiss "Swiss Army Knives" made in Spain, Germany, Taiwan or (of course) China.

Hey Riley....

If you are going to get a SAK make sure it is the RUK model....
Refered to as the RUK SAK...

Now wait I'm not trying to be a smarta$$,,thats what it's called...LOL

The blade is slightly longer and it also locks. It also comes with a Wicked saw that will hack you through pretty much anything you will want...

It's a great knife....

Let us know what you think after you've bought your first one.

Hey Guys - Let's take it a bit easy on o'Riley here - I mean I always thought I knew what "BM" meant until I got into the forums - I thought you guys had a really bad problem... until I learned finally that meant "Battle Mistress" and not at all what I thought! ... anyway .. enough fun .. let's all remember we had to learn someplace!

Riley,

SAK? - asked the same question when I first joined the site. Somebody always does about every 3 months.

The SAKs are nice to have because they are light weight mini tool chests useful in fixing many of the minor problems you may encounter. The multi-tools are good but they are heavier.

I keep a Vitorinox Rucksack (mod. VN-53661 ~$35US) in my backpack, its a good choice, but, perhaps a little large for the pocket at 4 3/4" closed O/L. Which is why I usually opt to carry a Camper (mod VN-53301) or Craftman (mod VN-53721) at 3 1/2" closed O/L on my person. Survival knives only work if you have them with you when you need them.

Thank you all for enlightning me.

I never have been fan of the Swiss Army knife. I carry a Leatherman Super Tool and a Leatherman Micra with scissors. I know, I know, a SAK could do most the same things in only one tool...but I like what I have.

I was thinking the SAK was a nice fixed blade, something along the lines of Cold Steel SRK

Live and learn Thanks again..

I don't mind the sarcasm but be warned...

Ok. guys - I think you got my point - We throw initials and abreviations around like everyone should know what they mean - I'll admit it - Took me a while to figure out SAK too - and I've carried one for 35 years! some of us like me are a little slower perhaps but we can all help each other learn.
Riley - I would suggest checking out Smoky Mountain Knife - they have a baseball "classic" Victorinox on special for $4.99 -that's a deal! AND you can try out an SAK on your keys - the Classic is very small with sissor, blade, nailfile/scewdriver, toothpick, and tweezer..all in a very compact package.. I've said it before - On a bet -I did field dress and skin out a deer with a classic -a small deer! ( I also carry a leatherman ( "LM" I think is the acronym)and love it.
